College Algebra - Math 111/112

Students will study relations, functions, and their graphs; the solving of equations both algebraically and graphically; specific families of functions and their properties such as polynomial, rational, logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric; and investigate conic sections, complex numbers, vectors, polar and parametric equations, sequences and series, and matrices. A heavy emphasis on graphing utilities leads to the development of conceptual understanding. If time permits, students will be exposed to some beginning calculus topics: the concept of limits, the definition of the derivative and the definition of the integral. Applications are emphasized throughout the material to allow the student to more fully understand the relevance of the material to their life.
