About me:
My name is James Arata (aka Marley) and I am 33 years old. I am a Native and a member of the Navajo Nation. I was born in Tuba City, AZ, on the Navajo reservation but I grew up in The Bay Area, CA, and I went to college at the University of California in Davis. After graduating, I lived in Oakland, CA, where I would work, play basketball, sleep, and then repeat. I moved here to Warm Springs in 2017 and I have just graduated from George Fox University with a degree in education. So here I am at the WSK8 Academy starting my teaching career as a 5th grade teacher!
I love playing basketball! I started playing when I was about 20 years old and I haven't stopped since then. I also grew up skateboarding, snowboarding, making music, playing video games, board games, card games, playing football, and I also used to box. I'm really just all about playing games.
I have been working with students (K-12) for almost a decade. I have volunteered with Global Student Embassy, Brothers in Christ, and for Americorps. I have taken on the roles of Program Coordinator for Playworks in Richmond, CA, and Youth Fitness Coordinator for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.
