If you are electing to participate in the 38North benefits plan(s), your benefits will commence on the first day of the month, immediately on or following your first day of employment. Please ensure you maintain health insurance coverage with your current employer until then.
Dental and Vision
You can find information regarding benefit options, including dental and vision, in our Benefits Brochure at the bottom of this page. Dental and vision are set plans offered by Carefirst and you must complete the paper-based form to receive coverage.
If you would like to waive dental and vision coverage, please complete the CareFirst Waiver form at the bottom of this page.
Health
Once onboarded and we have received your Social Security Number and Date of Birth, you will receive a separate email about how to enroll in our Carefirst medical insurance plan, which must be done through DC Health Link, as we are headquartered in DC. Please note that this account can not be set up until we receive your information as part of your onboarding paperwork and have created your account.
Once enrolled, you will receive an invite to create an employee account with DCHL and you'll be able to link your account to the 38North Security health plan. From there you can add your dependents and then browse all of the Carefirst health insurance plans that are offered. You may also choose to waive health coverage from this site if you do not wish to sign up for health insurance.
Health Spending Account (HSA)
Employees are able to make HSA selections via DC Health Link. 38North only supports HSA plans that have the word "BlueFund" in the plan name. We have set up an account with Further (affiliated company with Carefirst) who only manages "BlueFund" HSA plans and 38North pays the admin fees to operate these accounts.
Employees are welcome to select other HSA plans BUT you will need to set up your own HSA account with a financial institution of your choosing. This will incur additional admin fees, payable by you, as the fees are not covered by 38North.
The HSA contribution limit for 2023 is $3,850 for self-only coverage and $7,750 for family coverage. Those 55 and older can contribute an additional $1,000 as a catch-up contribution. Please notify us how much you would like to contribute at the time of enrollment so that payments can be made. Payments are divided equally over the remaining pay period for the calendar year. If you were a part of another HSA in the same calendar year prior to your employment with 38North, the amount that has already been paid will be deducted from the total before it is divided.
