"How to Learn Online" Presentation
Thank you for joining us at COABE 2026 in Indianapolis! We loved connecting with so many passionate adult educators. Below you'll find everything from our session, "How to Learn Online: Scaling Technology Education and Study Skills for Diverse Online Learner Personas" — slides, course access, and info on how your students can earn a certificate for free.
If you're finding this page without having attended, welcome! In April 2026, Xandi and Adam presented at the national conference for the Coalition on Adult and Basic Education (COABE). Their session introduced How to Learn Online, a free edX course designed to teach critical technology and study skills to adult learners across a wide range of backgrounds and goals.
We have made the slides from our presentation available for download as a PDF.
You can access How to Learn Online for free as an "audit learner." However, audit access is only available for the stated length of the course (1 week), so don't sign up until you're ready to engage! Audit learners do not earn a certificate but have access to all course content except for graded quizzes.
Want your students to earn the certificate for free? Through the Verizon Skill Forward program, learners can earn the How to Learn Online certificate at no cost (regularly $29) and will also have ongoing access to the course content. Verizon Skill Forward also covers edX certificates in a range of in-demand skills including Artificial Intelligence, Coding, Project Management, and more.
