Marva Dixon (she/they) has spent the last decade and a half teaching and wandering. After studying philosophy and photography at Howard University, Marva taught in Arizona through Teach For America, South Africa as a Fulbright Fellow, and France as a Teaching Assistant at Université Paris Diderot. Marva has also worked in the education departments of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and the Carnegie Museum of Art. In addition to her BA, Marva holds an MEd in secondary education from Arizona State University and an MA in contemporary art from the Institut d’Études Supérieures des Arts.
In another life, Marva may or may not have joined the circus. At one point in time (definitely not today), she specialized in aerial silks, but also has experience in aerial hoop and pole. As a photographer, Marva has had her photos featured in exhibitions in North America, Africa, and Europe. Marva joined 2U in 2019 and currently resides in Cleveland. If you look closely in the background of any given Zoom call, you might be able to catch a glimpse of Meeko, her very tiny and very sleepy chihuahua.
