Courses Faculty Recent Activities

The Department of History was started in the year 1976 and since then has shown a steady, all-round growth.

In the year 1976, the Pre-University course was started, with History, Economics and Advanced English. This was followed by the introduction of the B.A. History course in 1977-78. M.A. History was introduced in 1983-84, and M.Phil. in 1988-89.

At present, the Department consists of ten faculty members, all of whom have M.Phil. degrees. four faculty members have completed Ph.D.

Some of the significant achievements of the Department are:

• Design of Innovative courses when college became autonomous

• Introduction of useful job oriented certificate courses

• A summer course (UGC sponsored) was organized in 1988-89 and number of seminars/Exhibitions/ Study tours/ field trips were organized in relevant areas.

• The alumni of the Department are employed as lecturers in Universities colleges, and also in Travel Agencies and a few of them are practicing law.

The department has been striving to

• Stimulate social awareness in students through suitable exposure, and inculcate a sense of responsibility and commitment towards society.

• Enhance the employability of graduate and postgraduate students by providing them with extra knowledge and skills.
