  • Inauguration of the Computer Science Association for the academic year 2019 - 20, July 2019

The Chief guest for the event was Ms. Rathna Kamakshi, Senior Manager, Product Development, K7 Computing Pvt. Ltd. The chief guest gave insights into cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and risks through her presentation. Mr. Ravi Shankar, Head, K7 Computing gave inputs to students on how to make their digital life safe and peaceful.

  • Two certificate courses were conducted in this semester, 2019 - 20

Lema Labs, IIT Madras conducted a certificate course on Robotics. Final year students of UG and PG attended and successfully completed the course.

KKM Soft Pvt. Ltd. conducted a certificate course on Internet of Things (IoT). Pre-final year students of UG and PG enrolled for the course.

First year students of UG enrolled for NPTEL course on “Introduction to Ancient Indian Technology.

  • Dr. Meenakshi Lakshmanan and Dr. R. Suganya attended a workshop on “Autonomy to Colleges: Benefits & Way Forward”, organized by University Grants Commission in February 2019.

  • Dr. Meenakshi Lakshmanan and Dr.V. Rajitha attended a “Stakeholders Workshop on AICTE Approval Process” which was organized by AICTE in February 2019.

  • 12 students from III B.Sc. Computer Science attended a 3 months Certificate program on Design and Graphics conducted by Sri Ramakrishna Math.

  • 15 students of UG and PG course of the Department attended National level workshop on “Empowerment of Youth” organized by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai and Vivekananda Janoththana Trust conducted on 15 September 2018. Srimat Swami Gautamananda Ji Maharaj, Vice President, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Prof. R. Lakshminarasimhan, Director, Institute of Neurology, Madras Medical College were few among the many eminent speakers. They gave detailed insight into topics such as “What works for Contemporary Youth in their Self Development?”, “Gems of Wisdom from Indic Heritage that works for our Young Women” and “Forging Youth Empowerment through Leveraging of Vedanta, Yoga & Neurosciences”.

  • UGC conducted a one day workshop on “Adoption, Promotion and Production of MOOCs” on Swayam platform at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad on 30 August 2018. Dr.Meenakshi Lakshmanan, Head and Assitant Professor and Dr. R. Suganya, Assistant Professor from the department attended the workshop.

  • 171 Students from the UG and PG course of the department has enrolled in seven different courses under Swayam.

  • In the intercollegiate technical competition conducted by Ethiraj College for Women, Qamarunnissa Y and Sri Chandra K of II B.Sc. Computer Science got the second prize in the event ‘Brainetics”.

  • In the intercollegiate technical competition conducted by Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari Arts and Science College for Women, Pavithra P and Pavithra K of III B.Sc. Computer Science received the second prize in the “Collage” contest.

  • In the intercollegiate technical competition conducted by SSS Jain College, Kirthika E, Nandhini S and Yuvarani M of III B.Sc. Computer Science received the I Prize in “Connexions” Contest.

  • Faculty members of the Department of Computer Science participated in Faculty Development programs and National level workshops through the year.

  • Staff from the Department also underwent 21 days Refresher Course on “Education and Education Technology” conducted by UGC-HRDC, University of Madras.

  • Students of M.Phil. Computer Science attended a two-day “Professional Workshop on Python Programming “conducted by Guru Nanak College.

  • Students of M.Phil. Computer Science attended a two-day “National Level Workshop on Data Mining using R “conducted by Women’s Christian College.

  • In the technical symposium conducted by Madras Christian College, Ashwini G.B and Keerthana P of III B.Sc. Computer Science received the second prize in the “Paper Presentation Topic contest on Data Mining”.

  • The Department arranged a lecture on the Topic “Has the Right of Privacy Redefined Matrimony and Family Institutions in India” by the well known senior advocate of the Supreme court, Shri. N. Venkataraman. This speech brought out the flip side of Globalisation and dealt with two subjects Privacy and Global Feminism. The speech dealt with the 5 powers of Indian womanhood ‘Healing, Nyaya, Sacrifice, Pardon and Compassion’. The speech also highlighted how Privacy leads to non-transparency, unhindered liberties and how it impacts in the creation of a Relationship in Matrimony and family, besides building the future society and nation.

The department organized a “Design Thinking Workshop” on 28 January 2020. The workshop was conducted by Aktrea Solutions India Private Limited. Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that integrates the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success. Participants were given scenario where they analyse the problem and needs first, and then strategize plan to solve it with the available resources. I year and II year students of MCA and M.Sc. IT attended the workshop and gained first-hand experience in one of the best ideas defining the future workplace.
