Firies National School is a co-educational Primary School. Since its foundation our school has a strong tradition and appreciation of the importance of technology. We believe that it is vital for the holistic development of our students. We want to prepare our pupils to be independent thinkers, life-long learners and active members of society. Education is not just a way of thinking, but a way of living.

Since September 2018 we have been focusing on the development of STEM through our project ‘Machines and Mechanisms’. We are incorporating STEM into the school curriculum for all class levels from Junior Infants to Sixth. Children will become developers, creators and change makers of technology. It involves quality, hands on learning and is pupil-driven, using up-to-date technology . This project is also cross curricular and focuses on developing 21st century skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. Taking part in this project is benefiting the teaching and learning in our school and wider school system.
