Year 3

Term 1 - We are so glad to be back to school!

Our new Junior Infants are thrilled to get the opportunity to free play with our Cluster Resources!

Fourth Class pupils are looking at life on our Islands.
They considered how travelling to and from the mainland by ferry is impacted by Covid 19.

First they designed and built boats using various materials.

Then they used Lego WeDo to build socially-distanced modes of transport for the islanders of Arranmore.

Junior Infants create a Covid Compliant Christmas!

Junior Infants were worried about Santa's Elves so they created a Winter Wonderland that was safe for them to work in.

Then they realised that the Reindeer would have to social distance as they guided Santa's Sleigh.

So the children designed sleighs that were safe for them too! They made sure that the reindeer would be 2m apart from each other.

Some children decided that it was too risky for the reindeer.
So they designed and built other forms of transport for Santa and all the toys.

Breaking news.......
Bluebots are immune to Covid 19!!!!!!
Junior Infants have advised Santa that the Bluebots should guide his sleigh!

Term 2 - Out and Back In Again!

Don't worry - we can still work and play from home!

Here is Austin with the Lego Harry Potter Train set that he built without any assistance in less than a week.
Austin is 6 and the set is for Ages 8-14 years!

Ms. Doyle set her First Class pupils the following STEM Challenge:
What can you build with 100 pieces of Lego?

Here are some of the responses that were submitted via Seesaw.

Term 2 - Back to school again at last.

Ms Dinan’s Senior Infants had a busy Engineering Week. They learned about lots of different types of engineers. Some of their favourite engineers were ones who built drones, gaming computers and ships. They used the hall at playtime because their engineering ideas were just too big for the classroom! They used our cluster resources as well as recycled boxes to build their creations.

Greenschool Committee - Before Covid 19

In 2020, our Greenschool Committee Campaign was focused on encouraging as many families as possible to car pool.
Our school even won the Greenschool Carpooling School of the Year 2020!

Greenschool Committee - After Covid 19

In 2021, our Greenschool Committee looked at the impact of Covid 19 on Car Pooling and unfortunately realised that it was not safe to continue Car Pooling until after the pandemic. They now recommend that we walk or cycle to school where possible.
So we got new bike racks outside the school and are thrilled to see so many of our pupils using them.

Special Delivery!

The two boys made a very special, safe and socially-distanced delivery with Paudie today..... an Easter Egg for every child courtesy of the Parents' Association.

We mightn't be able to travel beyond 5km in our cars...
But we can go to Space in our Imaginations!

Senior Infants built Rockets, Moon Buggies and Space Vehicles. They reported that there is no Covid 19 in Space. So they built a Space Station... just in case we needed somewhere safe to go!

First Class looked at the impact of Covid 19 on Transport

First the children talked about all the different modes of transport and how Covid 19 has changed the way we travel.

Then the children looked at transport in our locality and decided to investigate Blennerville Bridge.

They went on a field trip to Blennerville Bridge and wrote about it in their copies.
Then they designed and built their own bridges.

The Blennerville Windmill Heritage Project

Our school was thrilled to receive recognition for coming in joint-second place in the
Explore Your Local Heritage Awards 2021
.
4th, 5th
& 6th classes took part in this cross-curricular project.

The children constructed their own windmills using recycled materials.
