Center for Movement, Health, & Disability

The CMHD is a training and research center at Old Dominion University that is supported by our adapted physical education faculty member and doctoral scholars.

Vision Statement

We envision a world where individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions have equitable opportunities to engage in movement-related behaviors that contribute to physical, mental and emotional well-being. We believe that conducting research to understand movement-related disparities among persons with disabilities and chronic health conditions, evaluating research and programming data, and providing evidence-based training to in-service and pre-service professionals, is a critical avenue for the development of these opportunities.

Mission Statement

The Center for Movement, Health, & Disability (CMHD) is a training and research center housed within the Department of Human Movement Sciences (HMS) within the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies (DCEPS) at Old Dominion University. Its purpose is to engage in evaluating and understanding health disparities among persons with disabilities and other health conditions, and to implement research-based trainings/programs to enhance well-being among these populations. Efforts will be supported through external funding.
