One of the best ways to see if a career will be a good fit for you is to gain real-life experience. Internships, job shadowing, informational interviews, and networking are a few different ways you can investigate careers you are interested in exploring.

Internships

The College of Lake County defines an internship as “a form of experiential learning that integrates the knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.”

Benefits of internships

Internships offer you many benefits, they offer you:

  • Can be a paid, unpaid, or a credit based.

Job Shadowing

What is Job Shadowing?

Job shadowing is a work experience opportunity where you learn about a job by going through the workday as a shadow to an employee and allows you exposure to one of your areas of interest.

Networking & Informational Interviews

Networking shouldn't be underestimated, it's the process of meeting. interacting, and making a connection between individuals. Network connections can be as informal as your family and friends or as formal as professors or coworkers. Networking and informational interviews can help you gather information about certain industries, organizations, career paths or skill sets.

Nepris connects educators and learners with a network of industry professionals, virtually, bringing real-world relevance and career exposure to all students. Nepris also provides a skills-based volunteering platform for organizations to extend education outreach, and build their brand among the future workforce.

CLC Lancers can create an account in LancerJobLink. Once you login on the dashboard you can select "Appointment Scheduler" where you can request to meet with a Career Specialist. It will as you to select your major or program you like best and the corresponding career specialist and their calendar information will appear. Then it just selecting a time and date to meet.
