Welcome to our December Parent Council Newsletter

December is here! How quickly this term has gone! I hope you are all getting ready for the holiday season!

Firstly, we have FANTASTIC news - we are finally going to hold our first face to face meeting since February 2020 🎉. Our next meeting is on Monday 06 December at 7pm in the school hall. If you'd like to attend please email us on bankheadparentcouncilgcc@gmail.com so we can confirm numbers!!!

Due to the continuing covid-19 restrictions, the Parent Council are not sure if we will be able to hold our usual fundraising discos and similar events this session, so please contact us if you have ANY ideas which we could use to raise money to support the school!!

Finally, everyone at the Parent Council would like to wish you all a fantastic Christmas and New Year break. However you decide to celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful time! 🎁

Scottish Government have announced a new £41 million Winter Support Fund for low income households.

Funding to help people struggling financially during the winter is part of a new £41 million support package.


The Winter Support Fund will help those on low incomes, children and people at risk of homelessness against a backdrop of rising living and fuel costs.


Key elements of the package include:

  • £10 million to help people who are struggling to pay fuel bills

  • £25 million flexible funding to help local authorities support wellbeing and respond to financial insecurity based on local needs

  • £6 million for third sector partners to support low income families

Before Christmas the Parent Council will send out a short survey on how you felt the telephone conversations went with your child's teacher in November!

Please look out for this and respond if you can!

The school's new communication app is up and running!

Search on your App Store for School App for Parents and input the school name - Bankhead Primary School Knightswood.

Then you should be up and running - it's that easy!

Glasgow Eco Trust Events:

Learn to cycle is back - the return of our learn to cycle programme has proved very popular. These offer a free 30 minute indoor 1-2-1 session and all equipment is provided. Open to ages 12+. Booking in advance is required.

Health walks - our health walks programme is proving really popular with walks leaving from Heart of Scotstoun on a Wed and Fri morning. Open to all.

Adult led cycle rides - our rides run every Tue and Sat and last for a couple of hours. Find out about dates and how to book.

We are hoping to engage more of our parents who do not have English as their first language in the life of the school and the Parent Council. To do this we will be asking for parents to help to translate short documents into as many languages as possible.

GCPG host many events throughout the year aimed at ALL parents within Glasgow. You can watch videos of their previous events on their Youtube Channel.
