Meet

Detective Robert Korbecki

TMC: Would you like to share with the Mustangs a little about your job?

I started my career as a Police Officer and was later promoted to Police Detective. As a Police Officer and a Detective, we are called on to help people and investigates crimes. Sometimes we can help people and solve the crime quickly, but sometimes it may take years. I always tell people, when they need help, they can always call us.

TMC: What do you like the most about your job?

I like to be able to help people by solving the crimes they reported.

TMC: What inspired you to pursue your profession?

I was in a volunteer Search and Rescue Team through a Sheriff’s Department. I enjoyed being able to help people when they need help the most. I enjoyed it so much, I decided I wanted to help people as a career and I became a full-time police officer.

TMC: What is the most challenging moment/event or part of your job? How did you deal with the challenge?

Sometimes during an investigation of a crime, I feel like I ran out of clues. When I seem to not have enough clues to solve the investigation, I will research other ways similar investigations were solved and learn new investigative skills to develop leads in my investigation.

TMC: What was your favorite subject in school and why?

History was my favorite. I enjoyed learning about other cultures and the way other people live in other parts of the world presently and in the past.

TMC: Who are you inspired by and why?

Albert Einstein has inspired me to always make sure I am complete and detailed in all the work I do. I always check and double check my work.

TMC: If you were not in this profession, which other jobs would you had pursued?

I would have joined the Navy so I would be able to visit many parts of the world and live on a ship.

TMC: What would you like to tell the Mustangs who would like to be a Police Detective?

I would tell people who want to be a police officer or be in the law enforcement profession, to work on their Language Arts. A police officer has to prepare and type many reports about the work that they do. Being able to compose a report in a concise and grammatically correct manner is a necessary skill.

TMC: One last question. How accurately is your profession represented in movies and TV?

Police shows on tv are not very realistic at all. Police Officers conduct a lot of research, conduct interviews, and type a lot of reports. Also solving a case may takes weeks or years and is not usually done within an hour. We don’t usually have to chase anyone either.
