Set up

Follow these steps to set up the program:

    • Complete the steps in the Installation instructions.
    • Set up the witptracker.properties properties file. Right-click on the filename of that file and choose the Open command. The contents will look something like this:

Edit the information in this file to match how you want WitPTracker AE to run.

      • The first line (Dir) indicates the directory where the game is installed. If you installed in a different place than the property file's default, change it to where you installed the game.
      • The second line (GameType) indicates what type of game you're playing. The value of 0 (zero) means you against the AI or head-to-head and 1 (one) means a PBEM game.
      • The third line (Side) indicates which side you're playing. The value of 0 (zero) means Japan and 1 (one) means Allies.
      • The fourth line (Password) is the PBEM password. If you're not playing a PBEM, this line will be ignored.
      • The fifth line (SaveFile) is the name of the save file you're using for the game. The save file format is wpae###.pws, where ### is the save slot number (e.g., wpae003.pws for a save in slot 3).
      • The sixth line (SaveMode) indicates how WitPTracker AE will look for save files. If the value is 0 (zero), the program will always look in the WitPTracker AE folder for the save file, so you'll need to copy the file from the game's SAVE folder to here. If the value is 1 (one), the program will always look in the game's SAVE folder. If the value is 2 (two), first it will look in the WitPTracker AE folder and if it's not there, will look in the game's SAVE folder.
      • The seventh line (Header) is a string that will appear in the header, such as a reminder of which game you're tracking. If this keyword is missing, nothing other than the name of the program is shown in the header.
      • The eighth line (TurnCycle) is a count of how many day turns you're running (1, 2 or 3). If this is missing, the program assumes 1-day turns.

Only change the text inside the brackets.

Be sure the last line of the file is an empty blank line.

    • If needed, copy a turn file from the game's SAVE folder to the WitPTracker AE folder (see discussion of SaveMode above).
    • Double-click the witptracker.bat file to begin the execution. A command window will pop up and show you progress of the execution, like below:

Eventually, if all goes well, the WitPTracker AE main window will be displayed.

When you quit the program, this command window will stay up until you press a key to continue.

Here is an example of the WitPTracker AE folder with the program running and all of the right files:

    • The turn file you first specify is the one that will be used to initialize the database. Once that turn is loaded, you cannot load turns earlier than that one. Therefore, you should initialize the database with the earliest turn you have available.
    • Explore the program. The other sections on the left navigation area explains some of it.
    • Note: the program uses a concept of "regions" for grouping bases together. Please read the discussion in Regions for an important point about the regions initially set.

Trouble-shooting:

Although we expect everything to go smoothly for you, sometimes you may be having a bad day...

The program creates a series of files (four or more) containing the database. These files all have names which start with trackerdb. If you need to fix any problems with the start up, you'll need to delete these database files to start fresh.
