R. paraensis

Rhodnius paraensis (Sherlock, Guitton & Miles, 1977)

Distribution:

Brazil (Para: Belem) French Guiana (Cacao)

Characteristics:

- Species close to R. amazonicus, R. pictipes, R. stali

- Length: 10.5-12.0 mm

- Overall color light brown, with very dark brown markings on body and appendages

- Hemelytra almost entirely dark

- At least the meso- and the metatibia with a black median ring

- Median process of pygophore bispinose

- Head short, protibiae without black median ring, length < 15mm

Biology:

- Naturally infected by Trypanosoma cruzi

- In nest of rodents (Echimys chrysurus) and marsupials (Didelphis marsupialis), in canopy tree cavities

- Feeding source: E. chrysurus, Didelphis marsupialis
