Characteristics

- Small triatomines (<10mm)

- General color black and red

- Ocelli not elevated, situated at level of integument

- Rostrum with first segment much shorter than second

- Scutellum triangular, with well-developed posterior process

- Genae apically pointed (spiniform), very slightly compressed laterally at base, surpassing clypeus, the latter widened subbasally, tapering at base

- Bucculae fully exposed

- Posterior region of the head subglobose

- Postocular furrow well perceptible, broadly U-shaped

- Eyes small in lateral view

- Tibia slender, cylinfrical. Tarsi three segmented, one third of the tibiae length. Spongy fossulae absent.

Biology

This specie was collected in nests of the rodent Capromys pilorides (Say); should have also Capromys melanurus as host (Lent & Wigondzinsky 1979).

Capromys pilorides (Jensflorian, Wikipedia) ("jutía" or "alquimí " in Cuba) These rodents are arboreal. Adults are 40 cm long, with a prehensile tail of 15-30 cm.
