Rhodnius neivai (Lent, 1953)
Distribution:
In arid areas of:Colombia (Cesar) Venezuela (Falcon, Lara, Zulia)Characteristics:
- males: 17-18 mm, females: 20-21 mm
- general color uniformly dark brown or blackish; rostrum, antennae and ventral surface of abdomen reddish brown
- hemelytra short, not extending much beyond base and at most reaching middle of seventh urotergite
- pronotum entirely dark brown or black, including the carinae
- connexivum blackish, with very small reddish spots situated in posterolateral angles of connexival segments III to IV or VII
- legs uniformly blackish, slender
Biology:
- has been found occasionally in houses
- in trunks of dead trees and on the palms Copernicia tectorum, Scheelea sp.
- feed on poultry, other domestic animals, humans
