SDAP Angel Class Colony Ship

Designed alongside the SDF-2, the Angel class was not designed as a warship, but as a civilian transport, meant to fulfill the Gloval Initiative; The establishment of human colonies outside earth's solar system, to ensure humanity's survival in the event earth was destroyed. A highly ambitious project, the Angel Class was designed to carry tens of thousands of humans and micronized zentraedi and all the supplies and equipment required to establish a home on an alien world. The Angel class is a large vessel, with a shape resembling a four lobed mushroom. The bulk of the vessel is passenger quarters and cargo holds. The bow section contains four shuttle bays, and can function as a detachable lander, to ferry cargo down to the world millions of tons at a time on its own sublight and antigravity drives. The resulting vessels were the largest craft humanity would ever build, rivaling Zentraedi warship. Due to their sheer size, construction was slow, even making use of salvaged zentraedi drives and systems where ever possible. With the aid of the captured Robotech Factory Satellite, the first dozen Angel class vessels would be completed in 2021, in time to accompany the SDF-3 and the Pioneer Mission on its journey to Tirolian space. During that 3 year voyage, leapfrogging across the galaxy, the UEEF would use the Angel class in its intended role of planting colonies, leaving a string of settled worlds in their wake. Successive waves of vessels would settle worlds around Earth, before construction was ceased in 2028. During the war against the Invid Regent, the UEEF would press these vessels into service as logistics vessels, carrying the parts, munitions, replacement mecha, and replacement personnel required for the ground divisions of the UEEF to conduct their interplanetary campaigns. These vessels proved vulnerable to attack by Tirolian remnants and the Invid, even with heavy escort, and the UEEF took care to keep them away from the heaviest fighting. The Angel Class would finally be retired in 2041, due to increasing age and vulnerability. Construction of the more advanced, and more heavily armed Ark Angel class vessels began at this time, intended to replace the Angel. However several dozen of the mothballed Angel class vessels would be refitted in 2043 for use as Weapons of Planetary Destruction, their hanger and cargo spaces aboard the landing module removed and replaced with a new armored prow and a single Neutron-S warhead, Shadow Technology weapons captured at Optera from rogue General T.R. Edward's forces. These warheads , while operating on poorly understood principles, were believed to have the power to incinerate the surface of an entire planetary hemisphere, achieving in one massive blast a feat that required the entire Zentraedi Grand Fleet in the 1st Robotech War. Intended as a last resort, nine of these weapons would be deployed during the final battle of Reflex Point by General Reinhardt, believing the ground campaign was failing. These vessels would be destroyed by the Invid Regis during her retreat from earth, vaporized by the energy form she and her Invid children assumed as they rose fro the planet to vanish into hyperspace. The remaining Neutron-S warhead modified vessels would be destroyed shortly after, at the Battle of Space Station Liberty, when one Neutron-S warhead was activated to destroy an attacking Haydonite fleet. the Warhead, far ore powerful than believed, crushed the Haydonite fleet, Space Station Liberty, and all the remaining Neutron-S Warheads into an artificial Gravitational Singularity. Only a few Angel class Colony ships survived at other UEEF factory satellites, their fates not yet determined.

Model Type: Super Dimensional Transport (SDAP)

Class: Angel ClassShip's Complement:

Ship's Crew: 1,326Bridge Crew: Ship's Captain (1), Executive Officer (1), Helm (3), Navigation (5), Communications/Sensors (5), Fold Ops (5), Ship's weapons (4), Comms (4)Ship's Operations: Engineering (440), Medical Team (208), General Enlisted (350), Security (300 Security Corpsmen with environmental armor and Carbines)Passengers: Typical colonist compliment is 150,000 for a long range colony placement mission (1 year of transit or longer). Can house up to 400,000 for short duration missions (6 months or less) but not recommended for longer missions due to crowded conditions causing social unrest. The Angel class is configured for bulk housing of colonists, with basic social amenities for its crew and passengers. (for example, pools, lounges, entertainment centers.) While far more comfortable than most military vessels, the Angel class was not designed with enclosed urban and park areas such as the SDF-1 possessed.Mecha Compliment:

12 Frandlar-Tiluvo Class Reentry Pods modified for human crews.

36 SC-32 Roc Trans-atmospheric Shuttlecraft (with external fuel tanks)

Foreward section/Lander Thrusters (16)

**Midships Hull Section (1/3) – 25000 ***Aft Hull Section (1/3rd) - 30000 ****Hull per 40ft (12.2m) area – 150 *Destroying the forward section of the hull will destroy the bow shuttle bays. **Destroying the midships hull section will destroy the midships hull section will destroy the bridge and command deck, and eliminate all weapon controls, rendering the ship flyable but unable to fight. ***Destroying the aft section of the hull will destroy the engines, setting the ship adrift. It will also destroy or render inoperable both anti-ship missile launchers and all four CIWS missile launchers. ****Punching holes in the hull will cause the damage control system to automatically seal off whatever compartment has been exposed to vacuum. Ships are highly compartmentalized to prevent decompression of the whole ship. Speed: Atmosphere: The ship was not designed for atmospheric operations. The Detachable forward section, with its anti-gravity systems, is capable of flight up to mach 5, and can attain orbit under its own power. Space: orbital cruising speed of 18,000 mph (18,800 kmh, or mach 23.5). maximum interplanetary speed of approximately 450,000 mph (724,000 kmh, or Mach 591) can be attained by Six days of constant acceleration. Maximum Range: Limited only by supplies. The ship's reflex furnace has fuel enough for 30 years, and thanks to the extensive cargobays, the vessel's on board supplies are sufficient for 5 years on a standard load, even with a full passenger compliment. With a cargo load intended for the construction of a colony, that endurance can be extended to nearly 15 years, at the expense of reducing the colony's emergency supplies. The fold array is good for jumps of up to 110 parsecs (358.8 light years), with longer distances requiring multiple folds.

Statistical Data: Length: 9200 feet (2804.16 m)

Beam: 3400 feet (1036.32 m)

Height: 3400 feet (1036.32 m)

Cargo Capacity: over 50 million tons of cargo. Enough supplies to build several New Macross sized cities, each with sufficient factories, mines, farms, and other infrastructure to support comfortable living on a new colony. These supplies, along with all the required vehicles to construct the colony, are delivered by a combination of the vessel's on board shuttlecraft, and massive “Cherub” class modular one-way ablative aeroshells which are constructed and loaded in orbit, and dropped to land near the colony site, delivering upwards of ten thousand tons of cargo each. The remains of these aeroshells are often broken down by the colony, their parts used in the construction of buildings. Mass: 30,000,000 tons, unloaded. Fully supplied and loaded, 80,000,000 tons. Weapon Systems:

1. CIWS-L-20 Point Defense Lasers (24): Spread around the ship's hull are twelve rapid-fire, single barreled 20mm lasers in pop-up turrets. 8 are located on the detachable lander module, and the other 16 on the main hull. Each turret has 360 degree rotation and a traverse of 180 degrees, giving them a very comprehensive field of fire. These weapons are used primarily as anti missile and anti-mecha weapons, and are the vessel's only built in defenses.

Primary Purpose: Anti-missile

Secondary Purpose: Anti-mecha

Weight: Not applicable, part of the ship's hull.

Range: 4,500 feet (1,371 m)

Mega-damage: 5D6 M.D. Per single blast, or 1D6x10 M.D. per rapid-fire dual pulse at the same target.

Rate of Fire: Each blast or pulse counts as one attack.

Payload: Effectively unlimited.

2. Combat Mecha Compliment (optional): The Angel Class does not normally carry Mecha or Troops for its own defense, relying instead on an escorting fleet for protection. After contact with the Tirolian Remnants and the Invid in 2025, an ad-hoc defensive compliment was often carried to give the vessel some degree of protection not reliant on escorting vessels. This compliment typically was composed of two or three squadrons Destroids and Battloids, typically drawn from the Marine forces of the escorting vessels initially, with later deployments receiving their own dedicated unit assignments. These mecha would be stationed on the hull during combat situations, to serve as supplemental point defense and reaction forces against boarding attempts. When used as logistics vessels, Two squadrons of Veritech Fighters or SFA-5 Conbat Strike Fighters would typically be assigned, replacing several of the SC-32 Roc shuttles, for longer range defense. Without these ad-hoc defensive arrangements, any military equipment the Angel class carries will be found in its cargo bays, either as replacements for UEEF task forces or as part of a colony's initial self defense force.

3.Ships systems of note: Advanced Avionics, launch and recovery system for shuttles and spacecraft, targeting/IFF computers, damage control/fire suppression systems, tactical life support, and escape pods for the entire ship's complement, including passengers.
