The Chor'ii Race

The Chor'ii are a unique and bizarre race of beings. in form, they resemble Terran Polar Bears, if such ursines stood on two legs, possessed 4 arms tipped with hands possessing opposable thumbs, and had 6 eyes, arrayed along both sides of the head providing 360 degree vision, and stood only 4 feet tall. their biology is unique, their bodily functions distributed across their entire structure, with few distinct organs. they posses no heart, with every blood vessel in their bodies wrapped in muscle fibers to pump blood, their respiratory system contained in air sacs intermingled with their guts and inside hollow bones. their gastric tract possesses multiple independent "stomachs", which also serve as reproductive and lymphatic centers. their brain is also distributed across their nervous system, in many redundant nerve centers. to kill a Chor'ii virtually requires the entire body to be destroyed, for they cannot be killed by system shock and organ failure like most biological organisms, and they possess an ability to isolate the functions of injured parts of their bodies, which heal at a rapid rate. this distributed biology however has it's drawbacks. chor'ii are temperature sensitive, more active in higher temperatures and more sluggish in colder temperatures. their distributed digestive system is also less efficient than a human beings, extracting fewer nutrients. as a result, a chor'ii is almost always hungry, eating multiple meals each day, each going into a seperate stomach for digestion. all Chor'ii are hermaphroditic, possessing both male and female reproductive systems. as a result, they can self-fertilize, essentially cloning themselves. multi-individual reproduction can occur, but is rare, the provenance of the elite in Chor'ii society. offspring are usually in small litters, each offspring from a separate womb-stomach. these pups grow at a rapid rate, fully mature after two earth years, although they do not reach full size until 4 earth years old. the chor'ii life span is measured in decades, with a typical age of death of 30 earth years.

because their planet cycles through frequent ice ages, the chor'ii share an ability with all life from their homeworld. when exposed to periods of extreme cold, their life processes slow down, and their hormonal glands secrete a chemical that keeps their tissues and fluids from freezing. this results in a kind of cryo-hibernation, a state where the individual can be frozen stiff and entombed in ice for extended periods, and survive until the ice thaws, when their life processes accelerate again. the maximum length of time the individual can remain in this hibernation state is not known, but examples of Chor'ii soldiers trapped for years in glaciers or derelict spacecraft are known.

Chor'ii Eugenics

the Chor'ii have a eugenics program in place as a population control. each citizen is required to birth their offspring at a government facility. these are then inspected for physical and genetic defects. if any are found, they are taken to the livestock farms, where they will be raised as food animals and fattened up for eventual consumption. those that pass these birth tests are not in the clear. the offspring of commoners and the offspring of enforcers are sent to camps, never to see their progenitor again. in these camps they will be raised and trained to fulfill the role of their caste (commoners as laborers and workers, enforcers as police, soldiers, and bodyguards.) the offspring of the nobility however are treated differently. these are also taken to camps for raising and education, but the offspring of each noble is kept together, unlike those of commoners and enforcers, and are told the identity of their progenitor. each bloodline competes against the other bloodlines in these camps, in violent and difficult exercises designed to weed out the weaker members. in the camps of all three castes, one thing remains the same. those that cannot keep up with the training, those that get injured or sick, those that break the rules, are given no assistance. a chor'ii must live or die on it's own strengths. no medical care is given, no second chances are given. and who fail are removed, and sent to the livestock farms as food animals.

Chor'ii OCC (By Taalismn)

Alignments: 98% of all Chor’ii can be considered Evil, and the remaining 2% are Selfish

Lifespan: years

Size: 4-5 ft tall

Gender: Parthenogenic; Chor'ii typically produce litters of 4-8 young after a seven-month gestation period, Worse yet, the compartmentalization of the Chor’ii reproductive system means that several litters can be gestating at the same time at different stages of development.

Physical Description/Appearance: Small, squat, ursinoids with a bipedal, upright, posture, four arms, and barrel chests. The head is large, with a blunt rounded snout and mouth fulll of sharp canine teeth. Six eyes are arranged around the head to cover a 360-degree arc of vision. The body is covered in short fur

Disposition/Attitudes: Centuries of desperation and millenia of cannibalism have focused the Chor’ii mindset around survival. Food is a constant obsession with Chor’ii; finding it and chasing it down. Chor’ii CAN reign in their hunger if it means luring even more food into striking range, or finding out whether a running meal will lead them to more food, but if there’s no pressing need to leave lunch alive for any longer than necessary, then why bother? And pretty much all edible non-Chor’ii are considered potential meals, grouped into such classifications as ‘meat that can be eaten right away’ or ‘meat that requires breaking down’. A Chor’ii will only talk to you as long as it takes to discern a) whether you’re edible, b) how much fight you’re going to put up before being eaten, and c) are there any more meals like you out there? In pursuit of meat, Chor’ii are willing to suffer greatly, and sacrifice many of their fellows.....that only means more for the survivors to eat. It’s not that Chor’ii don’t care about each other; they certainly care more about their own people more than others, but there are just so MANY Chor’ii that it’s difficult to get attached to any one fellow Chor’ii for any particular reason. Furthermore, Chor’ii must be constantly on guard against showing weakness to their fellows; any sign of being weak, inefficient, or ineffective is to invite being status-downgraded to ‘meat’. Today’s good friend, esteemed elder, or favorite child may be tomorrow’s meatloaf. This makes active Chor’ii something of workaholics and paranoids by the standards of other species; constantly guarding their few possessions, eyeing their neighbors, and working to insure their position (making sure one hauls one’s own weight, is in the forefront of running down food, or has accumulated favors from others). Getting rid of rivals is part of life; after all, if they have the opportunity, they’d get rid of you.

SDC: 80

MDC: By technology only

Horror Factor: 14 for anybody who’s seen a Chor’ii attack

Natural Abilities:

*Four Arms--- +1 Action/attack Per Melee

*Superior Peripheral Vision--- The arrangement of the Chor’iis’ six eyes means they can see in a 360-degree arc around themselves, making it impossible to surprise them from behind when awake.

*Superior Digestion System--- The ability of Chor’ii to divide up a meal among multiple stomach organs means they can safely sample foodstuffs without endangering themselves as a whole; +6 save versus ingested toxins. They can also go without eating for their P.E. in days, but typically must follow up with a gorging.

*Decentralized Organ System--- Chor’iis’ unique decentralized anatomy means they are highly resistant to the sort of damage that would cripple or kill other less-redundantly organed beings; +20% to save coma/death from shock, trauma, blood loss, and concussion. Blowing a Chor’ii’s head off won’t kill the critter(at least not directly and immediately), since the rest of its nerve ganglia in the rest of its body can keep the body going, but the Chor’ii will lose the use of its eyes, nose, and ears in the head.

*Enhanced Regeneration---- Chor’ii CANNOT regrow limbs, but they do recover astonishingly fast from any wounds that aren’t immediately fatal or crippling, recovering 1d6 HP/SDC every 30 minutes.

*Modified Circadian Rythyms---- Chor’ii exercise an incredible degree of control over their bodies in that they can route their consciousness and sleep cycles to allow them to work with as little as four hours of sleep per day. Alternately, they can, with the right external stimuli, such as a drop in temperature, put themselves into a state of hibernation.

Psionics: None; Chor’ii have not exhibited any psionic abilities.

Magic: None; Chor’ii have no potential for magic

Cybernetics/Bionics: None; Chor’ii don’t waste time with such luxuries as medical prosthetic's, and their strategies and tactics of drowning opponents in masses of Chor’ii cannon fodder have proven superior to any expensive soldier augmentation programs. Furthermore, any right-minded Chor’ii worth his survival instincts isn’t going to allow anybody else to approach them with knockout drugs with the intent of sticking knives in them afterwards.

Available OCCs: Due to a lack of resources and the time to spend on lengthy and time consuming social aspects like education, Chor’ii have a hereditary caste system that sharply divides their society into a small relatively well-educated officer/leader class and a vastly larger peon class.

(OCC still under construction...for the moment, treat the royalty and enforcer class as having a SDC setting military OCC, and the peon classes as having a handful of job related skills and WP rifle. Peons are basically cannon fodder drafted from the surplus population or workers. after the worlds are conquered, they tend to form the breeding pool for that new colonies worker population.)
