Stowell Galleries - Antiques

The Kaplon family who built and lived in the house from 1908 to the 1960s (before they leased the house to Kip and Nena Stowell in the 1970s); had a mix of Victorian and modern furniture, art, and appliances in the house. When Kip & Nena bought the house, Kip had all his family antiques moved from Massachusetts in a truck, and delivered in Harpers Ferry to the Kaplon house on a day noted by neighbors who had to help tell the truck which house the treasures were to be delivered. So the rooms were full of Victorian interior decor and revival style furniture, as the Kaplon's might have lived with in the early 1910s, for almost another 50 years after the Kaplons moved out. Some of these items were temporarily held. Many of these were given away. Most of them were sold by 2017 to clear the house for new owners interested in modernizing; by the decision of Nena Stowell, despite arguments by Walton Stowell for preservation. A few of these remain in possession of Nena (Iowa) and Walton (Maryland) in 2020.
