Following the success of our annual flower and vegetable show, over the Bank Holiday weekend 2019, we have been able to give a donation of £150 to both The Kent Air Ambulance and Cancer Research.

Change of Society Secretary

At the half yearly AGM, Mr Brian Williams stood down as Society Secretary, Show Secretary and Site Manager for Richmond Street/Nursery Close. Due to a change in personal circumstances he will be moving away from the Island so will no longer be available to carry out his duties.

For the last four years Brian has worked tirelessly for the Society and everyone on the Committee gave thanks for all that he has done. Thanks also to Karen, his good lady, for her help at the Annual Vegetable Shows.

What a fantastic August Bank Holiday 2019 Weekend

The weather really made up for previous year. A glorious week-end of sunshine certainly brought out the visitors to our Annual Flower and Vegetable Show 2019 at Stones Garden Centre, Halfway Road, Sheerness.

As usual our Society Members put on a brilliant show of produce, floral displays, arts & crafts and cookery. Children showed their talents in the 6-10 years and the under 16 years categories.

Trophy winners were as follows:-

The end of show auction, once again, was very competitive raising £300. This plus raffle sales, entrance fees and teas, coffee and cakes gave us record takings of about £900.

Each year we give any profits to Charity and it would be good to give a large amount to various causes but unfortunately we have to hire the marquee which costs us nearly £700. This plus a few other minor expenses brings the total down to around £100 Profit (final figures to be verified). The committee will discuss the possibility of giving a bit more during a later committee meeting.

The first year that the show was held at Stones they kindly paid for the marquee but we cannot expect them to pay every year - they do enough for us as it is. Last year we paid for the marquee and made a huge loss due to the awful weather.
