The Life of Daniel

The events reported in the book of Daniel occurred during the time of the exile in Babylon. Although it was a time of deep despair for the people, it was also a period when spectacular events took place. These are some of the most dramatic events in the whole of the Bible. (Click here to order)

Daniel 1: Daniel’s Training

Daniel and his friends display their faith in God by refusing to eat the palace food. God blesses them for their faith and they are favoured by the King.

Daniel 2: The Statue Dream

King Nebuchadnezzar has a disturbing dream that his advisors cannot solve. He determines that all the wise men and advisors will die for failing to explain his dream. When Daniel hears about this he prays with his friends for God's help. He then appears before the king and explains the dream and it's meaning. King Nebuchadnezzar makes Daniel and his friends leaders in the country.

Daniel 3: The Fiery Furnace

King Nebuchadnezzar created a massive statue and directed all people that they must bow down to it. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse to bow down so they are thrown into a fiery furnace. They did not burn but were seen with a fourth person with them in the fire. Nebuchadnezzar was amazed.

Daniel 4: The Tree Dream

Nebuchadnezzar had another dream and Daniel was able to tell him that it was a message from God to humble himself. Nebuchadnezzar does not pay heed and God strikes him down so that he becomes like an animal for a period of time.

Daniel 5: The Writing on the Wall

King Belshazzar calls for the use of golden goblets from the temple of God to use at a party. During the party a hand suddenly appears writing a message on a wall. The king is terrified and calls for Daniel. Daniel tells him that God is displeased with him and that the kingdom will be conquered that very night. Daniel's prediction comes true.

Daniel 6: The Lion’s Den

Daniel was favoured by King Darius. Other advisors to the king are jealous and hatch a plot to get rid of him. They convince the king to sign a decree that no one can pray to any God for thirty days. When Daniel hears the decree, he goes to his window to pray as he did everyday. As a result of this the king has no choice but to throw Daniel into the Lion's Den. God protects Daniel from the lions.
