ACAPS Deployment

ACAPS is a multi-NGO consortium (HelpAge International, Merlin, Norwegian Refugee Council) whose mission is to support better multi-sector assessments before, during and after crises, through things like the Disaster Needs Assessments created in the first couple of days after a disaster.

This activation request is important because ACAPS currently takes a couple of days to build a DNA for a crisis. Every hour counts during the DNA process, and if we can help speed up that process, ACAPS will be able to respond better to future disasters. ACAPS also wants to create links with volunteer mappers so SBTF is also likely to work more with them in the future.

We'll be helping ACAPS to collect disaster preparedness data for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The data will be used by ACAPS to better assess and analyze the impact of emergencies on the population of DRC, and as a template for preparedness data collection for other countries around the world. Our role is to collect secondary data (ie, information obtainable from the Internet) which is essential to provide the team with targeted and effective assistance to those in need.
