Description of system

Kilometer values appear on reflector poles every 100 m.

The hm value appears larger below the small km value.

Usually, but not always, every km the road number appears on top of the pole, but sometimes the km value appears there.

The km values often also appear in the middle of the road.

Sometimes, mostly on newer roads, the entire km values also appear on a bigger white sign in the middle of the road.

When a new section is built, it usually gets its own kilometerage. This has lead to more than 20 sections on the S7 and more than 10 on the S8.

Sometimes the number appears with a letter indicating the section, e.g. S5f.

On some old roads there is exit numbering based on km values but this is obsolete and a sequential system was introduced around 2015.

Accuracy:

For the points on sections that could be verified with streetview, ca. 95 % are less than 25 m off.

However, about 10 % of the network has no streetview, and therefore much lower accuracy.
