Fado is a music genre, a known symbol of Portugal. Since the moment of its birth, Portugal emerged in a crossroad of cultures. This makes difficult to point out a precise origin of Fado, The most commonly accepted explanation is that it came from the songs of the Moors, which kept living near Lisbon even after the Christian take-over. A shawl, a guitar, a voice and heartfelt emotion (sadness and melancholy) are the main ingredients of Fado.

Katia Guerriero was born in South Africa and soon after the family returned to the island of S. Miguel, Azores, where she was raised. When she graduated high school she leaves to Lisbon to attend medical university course. She graduated medical degree in 2000.

In May 2010 - Katia celebrated the first decade of her artistic career - she received from Amalia Rodrigues Foundation an important award: the one of "Best Performer of Fado".

Since the beginning of her career Katia has performed at the most famous stages all over the world, either on solo or on shows and festivals.
