Section 1- News

Northern Illinois had 1171 students take the 55th national exam! 20,496 Students from nearly 700 schools took the test, approximately 5% of the test takers are Northern Illinois students. The Senior and Non-Senior AATG-PAD Study Trip winners (2 students to represent the United States) are chosen from the entire test group not just Northern Illinois. Eine Hervorragende Leistung - Lehrer und Schüler!

This is the first year that the Level 1 Exam is being given. We are looking forward to the data and results. May 12th the results will be posted and you will receive an email with the results. We know that many schools will already be ending during that time. We are asking that teachers please print the appropriate awards certificate for your student and celebrate at your school. Suggestion: A class celebration with parents to celebrate the students’ success.

Meet the Danielson Domain #4

We are looking for two members to be trained 2015-16 to take over as the Awards and Testing Chair for the 2016-2017 school year. We are also looking for candidates to take on the following NOILAATG Executive Committee Chair positions: Program Chair & Membership Chair.

Section 2- Collegiate Awards

This is the fourth year we are able to offer the NOILAATG Collegiate Award of Excellence. Each Northern Illinois college/university may nominate ONE student to receive an award from our chapter. Instructors should submit the name of the student along with a paragraph detailing why the student should be honored. These students will be honored at the 2015 AATG Awards Ceremony on April 26th. They will also be recognized in our Spring Newsletter.

NOMINEES:Candidates are stellar in all possible ways. They have shown leadership, academic excellence and a drive to promote the German language and culture. They demonstrate their interest and skills in classes, at events, at competitions and even in travel.

DEADLINE: Nominations are due by March 14th to Anna Hog at noilaatg@gmail.com.

SUBJECT LINE: NOILAATG Collegiate Award of Excellence

Section 3- Language School Awards

Normally students at the language schools are NOT eligible for a AATG-PAD Study Trip or scholarship awards, as they must be at least 16 by December 31st. However, ALL students scoring in the 90th percentile or above in each level are still invited to the awards ceremony on Saturday, April 26 for recognition.

This is the second year we are able to offer the Language School Award of Excellence to a student of a Language School. This student will be chosen by the following criteria: Highest test score.

Each language school only has one representative listed on the exam report, it is important that you let me know of other teachers or administrators at the school who should be honored along with the high-scoring students. Please send this information to Anna Hog at ahog@sd308.org or call 630-267-4152.

Section 4- Recognitions

We believe it is important to recognize ALL the German teachers whose students took the National Exam. On the exam report there is only ONE name per school listed. Please email me with the names of the other German teachers in your building, who have help lead your students to the success and participation of the German National exam.

Section 5 - Understanding the Results

The results were sent as both an HTML attachment and a CSV format (spreadsheet format) attachment.

HTML documents

There is a separate document for level 2, level 3, and level 4 exams. Each document lists students from highest score to lowest. If two students scored the same, they are listed alphabetically by last name.

CSV documents

These documents contain the same information as the HTML documents plus additional data. The CSV document also allows you to sort information. Records are currently sorted from highest score to lowest.

Column Titles

The reports are organized by exam level and student performance from highest score to lowest. Along with scores for the Reading section and the Listening and Viewing section, you will find a Total Raw Score and Percentile Ranking for both Standard Group and Total Group.

Standard Group

The Standard Group represents only students who respond NO to the survey question "Is German spoken regularly in your home?"

Total Group

Percentile scores for Total Group indicate the performance of students in comparison to ALL students taking the exam at that level.

Raw Score

A raw score indicates the number of items a student answered correctly. Each section of the exam consists of 50 questions for a total possible National German Exam raw score of 100.

Percentiles

Raw scores have been converted into PERCENTILES. A percentile score indicates the performance of an individual student in comparison to ALL students who took the National German Exam. For example, a percentile score of 79 in the Standard Group indicates that the student performed better than 79% of all students in the Standard Group.

Section 6 - SCHOOL, REGIONAL & NATIONAL AWARDS

SCHOOL AWARDS

The AWARD column of the report indicates the prize level of each student's performance.

>Certificates recognizing each of level of performance can be found on our website

http://www.aatg.org/?page=NGEAwards.

>Individual teachers can download and print them to honor students at their schools

>Certificate seals and medals for outstanding performance are available for purchase in our store.

REGIONAL AWARDS

Prizes this year include AATG-PAD Study Trip to Germany, two weeks at Concordia Language Villages, and a scholarship to the fall student immersion weekend, as well as gift certificates to German restaurants and the GLOW award, which also includes a gift card. Note that each SCHOOL has a limit of TWO nominees (one senior and one non-senior), so if there are multiple teachers, they will have to agree on which students to nominate.

All teachers who participated in the AATG National German Exam will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony.

Regional Awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony on April 26th. Attached is a “Save The Date” invite for your students. Students who meet the following criteria are invited to attend:

Ø Participated in the Regional Selection Interview Process

Ø Scored in the 90th percentile

Ø Achieved a RAW SCORE of 90 or above

NATIONAL AWARDS -- PAD TRAVEL AWARD

AATG Headquarters allows each Chapter to nominate ONE candidate for Study Trip Award I (10th or 11th grader) and ONE candidate for Study Trip Award II (Senior).
