Notes:

This species formerly bred, with the largest colonies—from "five pairs to over a hundred" (Palmer 1949)—in southern Penobscot and eastern Washington Counties. Records of migrants and summering birds up through the 1980s, except those above, not listed; many scattered reports perhaps not listed here either.
