Notes:

* One discovered at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was said to have been seen in Maine at Kittery by D. W. Finch (pers. comm.). The New Hampshire bird was present 21 Nov-3 Dec 1970 but the date of sighting in Maine is not known to the committee at this time. This bird was reportedly photographed (see Am. Birds 25[1]:28, but photo not published there). This would represent the first Maine record.

** Up to three were seen from Deer Island Point, New Brunswick and reported as being only the second occurrence of the species in that province up to that time. These were reported in Vickery (1978) as records for Maine, presumably close to Eastport and international boundary. The committee has no details on these. Published in American Birds 26(1): 34 "...at the very least 3 Franklin's Gull's, 1 imm. and 2 ad., seen in various combinations Sept. 8 and 19, and Oct. 3, 23, & 30 (DSC, CLJ, JGW, PAP et al.). There was only a single previous record of this species in New Brunswick."

*** "One juv. off Eastport fall 1975 (ph. Peter Pierce)" fide P. Vickery. Photo and description not in committee files. Whether the bird was in Maine or New Brunswick waters is uncertain.

**** "1 ph. at Pine Pt., Scarborough, 5 Sep 1982 (Sue Reade ph.)" fide P. Vickery. Photo and description not in committee files.

***** one 22 Sep 2005 at Whiting, Washington Co. (Norm Famous) fide J. Despres. No details on file.
