Tyler Brown

Tyler Brown and his wife Sarah Fick were born in the early days of the Long Point Settlement circa 1804 and circa 1803 respectively. They were life long residents of Walsingham Township. Tyler Brown's father Samuel Brown arrived in the township in 1795 and pioneered on Lot 22, Concession 1 on Long Point Bay between present St. Williams and Port Rowan. Sarah's parents Frederick Fick and Elizabeth Becker came from Catskill, New York and made their home on Lot 2 in the Front Concession on Lake Erie near Port Royal.

Tyler and Sarah made their homestead on 80 acres in the north part of the Samuel Brown property and had a prosperous farming operation valued at £119 in 1850. In all they owned an impressive 280 acres in Norfolk County. Tyler served as a deacon in the Baptist Church in St. Williams.

No gravestone has been found for this couple. Sarah Brown was recorded as a widow in the 1871 Census of Walsingham Twp. and her death on February 6, 1882 was reported in the British Canadian newspaper. The couple had ten children. This picture was likely taken in the 1860`s.
