Unpublished

Here I am putting some of my unpublished works. The content given below is - no doubt - my copyright. In future I will try and update few figures as well. The small list is below -

Solar bi-cycle

At an age of 17 I devised a solar bi-cycle. With that design I went to the Indore University and asked if I can get help from the non-conventional energy source department (it was somewhere above the central library at UTD campus) – they informed me that the solar cells are very expensive and they cannot help me. When I am writing this the Copenhagen summit is in progress, I designed something 12 year before world political leader’s talk about it.

I had the idea of making a bi-cycle with shade when I used to go to school from my class 6 onwards. That time I used to go more than 2 km in rains, summers and winters which gave me the idea of having shade on my bi-cycle. When I studied basics of solar cells in my class 10 I thought of using them in cycles. However, I did not know how the energy can be used in cycles. Over time I studied rechargeable cells in Chemistry (class 11, if I remember correctly), faraday's law in class 12 physics, I understood I can –

i) use the movement of bi-cycle wheel to generate electricity (which I saw in dynamo based lights too) and

ii) use the electricity generated by the solar cell to run the cycle automatically.

In the mean time, I saw some tailors using Tullu water pumps (some 35 or 50 model) to run their manual machine. Bang!! I got the idea of using the Tullu water pumps and use it.

All the ideas were thrashed by some bureaucracy; which precisely said two things

i) the solar cells are very expensive (that’s true)

ii) this guys seems too young to do anything (the typical Indian mentality – Grey hair can only have some thing to contribute)

i-pod type device

I was busy with my engineering later, helpless keeping the idea with me and not work on that. I studied at Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior for my engineering. At my undergraduate school i.e. MITS Gwalior, I had some similar out of the box thinker friends – Vijayant, Jitendra, Anand and Lalit. Computers used to be the biggest fascination for us with newly launched Windows 98 – it could play sounds, movies and do many more things. One more thing common among Lalit, Jitendra and I was our craze for RD Burman, we used to listen to his songs almost always.

Jitendra once asked if we can make ‘a walkman using the hard disk’. We were onto it – Vijayant, Anand, Lalit, I and of course Jitendra. We need a hard disk, circuit to do the processing and a processor. Processor!! Processor! Where can we get a processor for a small work and dedicated work of only reading the files on hard disk and playing the music? Well, it was in 1999 way before Apple introduced i-pods. They must have thought as we did. Then what was the difference? We were mere students and did not know where to get finance and guidance from; they had everything on their side. Here I felt the difference between the way things work in India and the way in some of the developed nations. Fine, now the scenario is changing a lot and we see venture capitalist and investors for good ideas.

Technology forecasting

In our undergraduate we studied a subject called – Digital Computer Organization. When we studied this subject, that time India was on its biggest success story – Information Technology boom. Internet was new entity, web surfing and chatting used to be the in-thing. That time with the basic concepts of the subject I forecasted that there is going to come a newer client-server model which would efficiently use the internet and not just make the things decentralized but also unify on a macro level. Few people understood this concept that time (1999-2000). Now, corporates are trying to leverage similar concept which I suggest – the Cloud-Computing.

With the concept of ‘newer client-server’ model, I forecasted that there would be means to edit and share documents online. This is a reality now.

In the year 2004-05 I forecasted that next generation Operating Systems will be browser based. Google is coming up with the product Google Chrome Operating System.

In 2006-07, I forecasted that in future data will be stored in air. Yes! data will be stored in “Air”. This has to be looked into when we see this idea becoming a reality.

In 2006-07 I did a research work with two doctors. It was on wound healing process. This forecasting methodology was using the concept of TRIZ (The theory of inventive problem solving). This research work required us to collect and read data over a period of 3-4 months for formulating and building on this research work. There was no past precedence. The total soft copy documents read were about 18 MB and other books for reference. Interviewing the Doctors and discussing with them itself was a great experience. Biggest challenge was convenience them and make them visualize the trend. It took about 5-8 meetings to convenience doctors and show the complete flow of evolution pattern and benefit of this research work. For detailed article please refer to the published papers.

Other works

When I was teaching as a visiting faculty in a business school for Queuing theory and Game theory, besides others, I came up with few ideas. I did design analysis of Cisco routers, to explore the possibilities of utilizing queuing theory optimally for improving Quality and Type of service. For this work and my interest; I regularly browsed and worked on queuing theory and read Cisco documentations.

Further, watching the stock market Forecasting techniques used by TV channel CNBC; I thought of a stimulating use of Game theory in this field with intelligent programming in which by gauging market sentiments and other factors one can predict with variable accuracy the course of the stock market in a theoretical manner. By estimating the move of “big players” (opponent in game theory) and their corresponding effects on market one can predict the course of action to make maximum profit and the relative and imminent performance of the stock market. Precision can be introduced by extending this work by including factors like small investors, overall national/international economy and a few quarter results and more important details. To work on this off-late I have started reading economics and accounts.

Early 2008, I coined the idea of measuring ideas and innovation efforts. This work is on and I have made some metric on the same.

Tracking lost credit/debit card 30-July-2005

This idea was a flash of mind while doing something. The reason for exact date for this idea is – I wrote this idea on a page with date and time, kept this page in my Barron’s GRE preparation book wherein I found a page recently. Similar idea is being circulated by mails lately, I did not remember, I also designed such idea in 2005.

Lost credit/debit card tracking system + identifying the thief. If an individual looses the card and informs the card company, the company would close the card however would allow the thief to use the card. When the stolen card is used, a siren in nearby police station will indicate use of stolen card. Accepting the payment with delaying the process of completing the payment would stay the thief besides offering time for police to reach the place. The thief can be caught.

Electronics A/c payee demand/bank draft 30-July-2005

This idea was a flash of mind while doing something. The reason for exact date for this idea is – I wrote this idea on a page with date and time, kept this page in my Barron’s GRE preparation book wherein I found a page recently. Now we have electronic fund transfer but this idea was more related to applying to say PSU jobs with DD. The process could be –

1. A user applys online for DD /Provision for the same in the bank

2. His account information in case of online DD

a. His name & address

b. Favour of information

3. User will get following information about the DD

a. issuing bank name, no

b. DD number

c. Date of issuing

d. other required code, if any

e. User has to provide

4. User will get a record of the e-DD

Advantages

1. No use of credit card on insecure site.

2. Can be used in applying to any job, as PSU India and etc

3. Reduce the queue length at bank counter

4. fast reliable and easy

5. online transfer of funds that is more secure and fast

Precaution

In case the user makes any mistake there has to be a method to counter the same moreover user shall be charged for the mistake

Indian Classical Music & Yogic Chakras (energy centers of human body)

In Jan 2008, I started learning Indian Classical Music. I along with my art of living teacher – Dr Shrikant Agashe – my music teacher – Pt Bhalchandra G. Tilak and few others am working on a research – connection between the yogic chakra (energy centers) of human body and raagas. For details please visit Indian Classical Music & Yoga research work page.
