Old Updates and To Do List

The Updates and To Do list were clogging up my main page, pushing the important stuff down toward the bottom of the page. So I made this page as an archive.

Old Updates:

I started a new page to remember my relatives who served in the military. It's separate because I am starting to run out of space on this site. See Military Profiles.

I went to the Krueger Reunion, in Vining, Iowa in August. Got to meet a lot of second cousins for the first time! I also visited the Historical Society in Toledo, Iowa, and bought several books. The Centennial books for Chelsea and Elberon have been very useful, filling in a lot of my second and third cousins. There is even a picture of my great grand uncle Albert Posekany. While on my one-day tour of Iowa, I also visited my aunt Arlene (Jacobi) Haloupek, and her daughter Kathy, then visited my father's cousin, Violet (Haloupek) Van Waus. Violet showed me some great old pictures and clippings, and promised to send me copies. I was thrilled when they arrived! Some of these are on the Haloupek page.

Then my aunt Diana (Posekany) Castell sent me some pictures of my great grandmother, Agnes (Stanek) Posekany. These are on the Posekany page.

Leighton Kaloupek's new book "The Chaloupeks of Kopidlo" has a great deal of information for me. I have only begun to update the Chaloupek page.

Major updates to my Stanek page, going back to 4 of my 8g-grandparents!

I volunteered to be the Coordinator for the Tama County, Iowa, IAGenWeb site.

My father's cousin Hattie Violet (Haloupek) Van Waus sent me a bunch of old pictures and documents. She also identified everyone in the 1929 Chaloupek photo. I moved it from the Haloupek page to the Chaloupek page (about 2/3 of the way down), when I realized how many Chaloupeks were on it!

Dennis Lamb sent me a very nice article, that he wrote, which I have attached at the bottom of the Chaloupek page. It's about Charley "Lob" Chaloupek, and the importance of small acts of kindness.

I posted some new family tree charts and descendant reports on my All Posekanys page. Family members only, please! If you are in the family and don't have access, shoot me an email. This is in anticipation of the big Krueger Reunion in August!

There are several branches of Posekanys in the US, that I keep running across in my research. In my attempts to make connections between the branches, I have collected a lot of information on branches that may not even be related to mine. I have started a page on Posekany Branches for this. Please see if you can help with the mystery of the three brothers.

I've just about given up on making nice family trees with Family Tree Maker. The jpegs are usually over 1 Mb, and that's more than google sites can handle. Using the Microsoft emf format seemed to be a good solution, but it required viewers to use IE. Nobody uses IE any more. So I will include a few tree images, and try to work on the descendant report format.

Updated the Jacobs and Stanek pages, because I extended the tree another 4 generations in each case. The Jacobs page still needs work. Also extended and clarified the Chaloupek page.

Revamped and updated the Posekany and Pragr pages.

To do list:

There are a few new findings that I have not included yet, because they're not in my direct line. I can do more work on them if anyone is interested.

Richard Eugene Castell recently passed away. A great old soul, he will be dearly missed. Dick was married to my mother's sister. When I got the info from his obituary, I was able to trace his ancestry back into colonial Virgina and North Carolina. One of his forefathers is listed variously with 5 different wives. I think it's the result of some sloppy work by internet genealogists. It would take a lot of work to sort out that mess. I still don't have any decent pictures.

Genevieve Mills was married to my father's oldest brother. Her line goes back to colonial Connecticut, and then over to England, in the early 16th Century. Probably much further, as I just stopped when my mouse hand got tired!

My Aunt Arlene (still living) was married to my father's youngest brother. Her line jumps over quickly to Germany and Norway, and goes back to at least the 16th Century.

Of my wife's 4 grandparents, I had only made progress on her father's father. That line went way back to some 2nd Century Vikings. Now I have also followed her father's mother's line, back into colonial Connecticut and Virginia, and it probably goes much farther.

Guy McCausland was married to my father's sister. His line goes back to colonial New York and Pennsylvania.

Thanks to Leighton Kaloupek, I have a lot of data on the Kaloupeks. These are descendants of Vaclav Vencil Kaloupek, brother of my g-grandfather, Frank Louis Chaloupek. Leighton and I are 3rd cousins, since we share gg-grandparents. I will probably get around to making a page on all the Kaloupeks, since I have so much of that part of the tree filled in, and lots of pictures.

The Immigration Timeline page needs updating. It still has some of those emf's.

I want to put in a lot more maps, like the one on the Chaloupek page. But I am already up to 70% of the 100 Mb limit for google sites. I may have to split the website into two parts.

Less recent:

There are so many Posekany pictures, I put in an extra page of them.

I found my 7g-grandfather, Jacob Classen, born about 1670, in Schleswig-Holstein. He was Grandma Nora (Krueger) Posekany's 5g-grandfather. He's on the Jacobs page.

Also found lots of information about the Pragr line. That includes more Chaloupeks. I actually have more Chaloupeks on the Posekany side than the Chaloupek side! However there doesn't seem to be any connection. Anyway, I have names for 4 of my 5g-grandparents, from Bohemia. They're Grandpa Milo Posekany's 3g-grandparents.

I should probably make two Chaloupek pages. But for now, the Chaloupeks on the Posekany side are on the Pragr page.

I think I've sorted out the Staneks and the Yarosheks. With a little help from my friends!

Also, I looked into my wife's ancestry a little. I found nothing on 3 of her 4 grandparents. But the 4th one ... wow! The ancestry goes back into colonial times, and from there into Scotland and England. It hooks up with some Scottish royalty, and from there, into the rest of European royalty. The furthest back I have traced it is to some Viking kings in the 2nd Century AD. In her direct line are Edward II of England, William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, and Lady Godiva! Also Oconostota, Warrior Chief of the Cherokee. I haven't included any of that here. That would be a huge project!
