FILM QLUB SEASON 7: ADAPTATION

No matter how many times I see the movie, the scene in the cemetery always gets me. It gets me every time. It is so raw.

(TORCH SONG TRILOGY, July 2017)

a fantastic movie really enjoyed it and enjoyed the season.

(TORCH SONG TRILOGY, July 2017)

Torch Song Trilogy was the perfect choice to finish [Season 7] with. Wonderful movie.

(THE FISH CHILD, June 2017)

Where do you find these films? I had never heard of Gohatto.

(GOHATTO, May 2017)

It was interesting to hear about the use of the camera.

(GOHATTO, May 2017)

I found it boring, how the scenes were drawn out.

(GOHATTO, May 2017)

fab film, love that they put the expense into showing exactly what their lives would be like.

(REACHING FOR THE MOON, April 2017)

This film was a really big deal in Brazil. There are few lesbian and gay representations in Brazilian cinema.

(REACHING FOR THE MOON, April 2017)

good film and a really enjoyable afternoon in good company.

(REACHING FOR THE MOON, April 2017)

Too heavy. Some scenes where hard to watch.

(POISON, March 2017)

A classic

(POISON, March 2017)

The three sections didnt come together for me.

(POISON, March 2017)

"This one was bizarre.......even by FQ standards."

(MANJI, Feb 2017)

"It was almost operatic, with all the excess of feeling and all the unlikely plot-twists that you find in opera."

(MANJI, Feb 2017)

"Brilliant. It captured the spirit of the 60s."

(MANJI, Feb 2017)

"Thanks .  .  .   for another great mad and interesting film! "

(MANJI, Feb 2017)

"It feels as if the film was made just now."

(HEAD ON, Jan 2017)

"To my mind, that may have been the best post-screening discussion I've been to at the Film Qlub"

(HEAD ON, Jan 2017)

"I read the novel ahead of the screening -- It is a good adaptation, but they are very different in some ways."

(HEAD ON, Jan 2017)

"The film has to be put in the context of racism in Australia, which is not only widespread but institutionalised. Treatment of native Australians in particular has been appalling."

(HEAD ON, Jan 2017)

"Very charming."

(WHO IS AFRAID OF VAGINA WOLF?, Dec 2016)

"That was a laugh."

(WHO IS AFRAID OF VAGINA WOLF?, Dec 2016)

FILM QLUB SEASON 6: FUNCTIONAL FAMILIES

~~~~~~~~~~
"Really enjoyed Chutney Popcorn - a movie full of smiles and a message or two"
(CHUTNEY POPCORN, June 2016)
"I absolutely loved it. I feel I learned a lot... not least about Indian culture"
(CHUTNEY POPCORN, June 2016)
"I was expecting a light comedy, but I thought a lot of it was pretty serious!"
(CHUTNEY POPCORN, June 2016)
"That was a tough film to watch."
(THE PLACE WITHOUT LIMITS, May 2016)
"The protagonist was so strong, it was almost unbelievable."
(THE PLACE WITHOUT LIMITS, May 2016)
"I liked the fact that prostitution was totally deglamourised -- lots of films present a distorted view of it"
(THE PLACE WITHOUT LIMITS, May 2016)
"REALLY   Enjoyed it   we should all have family gatherings like this   what fun."
(PORQUOI PAS MOI?, April 2016)
"The film played with our expectations all the time. It is amazing how used we are to have violence and trouble in gay films... A gay man stepping onto an empty soccer pitch at night... you automatically feel something terrible is going to happen to him. ...and instead you get that lovely scene at the end of the film!"
(PORQUOI PAS MOI?, April 2016)
"[Film Qlub was] Great as always :)  "
(PORQUOI PAS MOI?, April 2016)
"Quirky, cheerful, glamorous .  .  . French farce"
(PORQUOI PAS MOI?, April 2016)
"what an interesting afternoon. Lovely film and contributions before and after. Film Qlub rocks."
(LONG TIME COMPANION, March 2016)
"Enjoyed this movie as it truly captured the fear surrounding the AIDS crisis in the 80s and the lack of accurate information that promoted that fear."
(LONG TIME COMPANION, March 2016)
"I really enjoyed this film. It was really moving".
(LONG TIME COMPANION, March 2016)
"A sad, poignant, historic, amazing film for the time .  .  .  -2 million new HIV infections in 2014 and 1.2 million died from AIDS related illnesses that year. In Ireland 498 HIV infections newly diagnosed in 2015 (+126 compared to end of 2014, a 34% increase). .  .  stats for Ireland for 2016, week 10 to date and unfortunately 115 new HIV infections have been diagnosed (+ 48 compared to the same week last year) http://www.hpsc.ie/A-
(LONG TIME COMPANION, March 2016)
"A bit overwhelming. I think it touched most people in some way or other."
(Film Qlub member, LITTLE SPARROWS, Feb 2016)
"I thought that the documentary style sections did not work well with the rest."
(Film Qlub member, LITTLE SPARROWS, Feb 2016)
"I enjoyed the discussion more than the film".
(member of Running Amach, LITTLE SPARROWS, Feb 2016)
"Great fun."
(day member, TOKYO GODFATHERS, Jan 2016)
"It takes all the conventions of the 'Christmas film'... and explodes them!"
(day member, TOKYO GODFATHERS, Jan 2016)
"Hilarious!"
(day member, FRENCH TWIST, Dec 2015)
"I have seen it before. It's funny every time."
(member of Running Amach, FRENCH TWIST, Dec 2015)
"A very nice film."
(member of Running Amach, IGNORANT FAIRIES, Nov 2015)
I thought it was a really profound film.
(member of Running Amach, ANTONIA'S LINE, oct 2015)
Really enjoyed this beautifully filmed Dutch farm drama and the feminist women therein post World War II, way before their time, and the seasons of planting and harvesting, birth and death. Life's circle.
(Film Qlub member, ANTONIA'S LINE, oct 2015)
Beautiful.
(Film Qlub member, ANTONIA'S LINE, oct 2015)
Reading this film only in terms of its politics is a total over-simplification. There is so much going on.
(Film Qlub member, ANTONIA'S LINE, oct 2015)
                                     FILM QLUB SEASON 5: GAY DIRECTORS
Saved the best of season five 'til last methinks. Really enjoyed rollercoastering from laughter to guilt from laughing to sadness. Brilliantly entertaining altogether. Thanks again .  .  .  for sifting through the dross to find the treasure for us. Ye have us spoilt! Roll on season [six].
(Film Qlub member, DOLAN: I KILLED MY MOTHER, last film of season Five, July 2015)
I cant get over the fact that someone so young would have such an understanding of different levels of experience, including being able to see things from the point of view of the mother. I am flabbergasted. It is extraordinary.
(Film Qlub member, DOLAN: I KILLED MY MOTHER, July 2015)
[-Xabier Dolan was 16 years of age when he wrote the script, and 19 when he directed it].
Qlubber 1: "The protagonist is just an average teenager."
Qlubber 2: "Average?! In what planet? I certainly didnt behave like that [when I was a teenager] !"
Qlubber 3: "I did. It made me cringe to watch the film, I saw myself in it. We can be so horrible at that age."
Qlubber 4: "There is nothing wrong with the boy. His mother, on the other hand... she's lost it."
Qlubber 2: "That poor long-suffering mother... You would loose it too, if you had to live with that... 'thing'."
Qlubber 4: "His mother is borderline psycho ! "
(Film Qlub members discussing the film, DOLAN: I KILLED MY MOTHER, July 2015)
I loved the film.
(member of Running Amach, REES: PARIAH, June 2015)
Amazing.
(Film Qlub member, REES: PARIAH, June 2015)
Yes, even though we have seen many coming out stories in movies, this one felt different. In black communities in the USA, coming out is actually a completely different experience. It is much more difficult.
(Film Qlub day member, REES: PARIAH, June 2015)
'Coming-out' very difficult in many cultures and contexts still. Excellent film. Best line - "I am not running, I’m choosing", as Alike makes her own way proudly, determinedly.
(Film Qlub member, REES: PARIAH, June 2015).
I really enjoyed it. Everything about it.
(day member. PASOLINI: TEOREMA, June 2015)
For me the discussion afterwards was the best part, as is always the case when the film has no obvious beginning, middle or end. I loved the fact that everyone had a different take on what was going on in the film.
(member of Running Amach. PASOLINI: TEOREMA, June 2015)
I’m not sure if it was a metaphor for the politics (bourgeois vs proletariat) and religion (Catholicism post Fascism) of the time in Italy based on Pasolini's perspectives or what?  .  .  .  Fascinating anyhow and beautifully filmed.
(member of Running Amach. PASOLINI: TEOREMA, June 2015)
Tks for another interesting saturday afternoon
(member of Running Amach. PASOLINI: TEOREMA, June 2015)
[A] great movie. As many interpretations of it as were people there. I so love the film club
(day member. PASOLINI: TEOREMA, June 2015)
Film Qlub Saturday. Best day of the month.
(member of Running Amach. PASSON: CONCUSSION, April 2015)
Woah think lesbian film may be taking an interesting turn!  .  .  .   really enjoyed this thought-provoking film   [S]cript, characterisation and acting all pitch perfect.
(member of Running Amach. PASSON: CONCUSSION, April 2015)
Qlubber 1: "I think I need to get a concussion..."
Qlubber 2: "I think I need to get a loft..."
(two members of Running Amach chatting in the Front Lounge after the screening. PASSON: CONCUSSION, April 2015)
 [-- in the film, after getting a concussion, the protagonist turns a loft into a place where she meets women]
I really enjoyed the film. Everyone's interpretation of intimacy is different . .  . And like a singer or athlete or genius, we should all have the choice to use our bodies as we please. If that's our talent, and we are safe.
(member of Running Amach. PASSON: CONCUSSION, April 2015)
Beautifully filmed, beautiful women in beautiful surroundings. Somewhat 'cold' though, and 'cold' characters.
(Film Qlub member. PASSON: CONCUSSION, April 2015)
Thanks .  .  .   for another great afternoon. This is a movie I'd never have seen without the club and it was well ahead of its time. Loved the music.
(member of Running Amach, MacPHERSHON: Borderline, March 2015)
I loved it.  The camera angles, the editing, the acting... everything was superb.
(Film Qlub member, MacPHERSHON: Borderline, March 2015)
I really liked the movie and the discussion after.
(member of Running Amach, MacPHERSHON: Borderline, March 2015)
It wasnt my kind of film.
(member of Running Amach, MacPHERSHON: Borderline, March 2015)
I learned a lot from the chat afterwards!
Are there any more films or documentaries out there about any of these amazing women?
What a great film
(member of Running Amach, MINNELLI: Tea and Sympathy, January 2015)
Thanks so much .  .  .  [A] great film, for me the most enjoyable that was [ever] screened at the film club. :-)
(member of Running Amach, MINNELLI: Tea and Sympathy, January 2015)
Loved the 50's style and 'double film' for different audiences in light of the laws / codes of the time Tea and Sympathy was made. Ingenious that they were able to do it and get it [produced] by MGM .  .  .  Good way to spend a frosty afternoon in the very hospitable New Theatre.
(Film Qlub member, MINNELLI: Tea and Sympathy, January 2015)
I didnt really like this film. To me it seemed to be going in all directions at once, it lacked focus.
(Film Qlub Day member, MINELLI: Tea and Simpathy, January 2015)
Many thanks .  .  .   for another lovely afternoon of queer cinema! Really enjoyed soaring melodrama, gorgeous costumes and Deborah Kerr:) Sorry had to leave just as the debate was getting heated after ;)
(Film Qlub member, MINNELLI: Tea and Sympathy, January 2015)
Wonderful.
(Film Qlub member, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
Great film, really enjoyed it.
(member of Running Amach, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
Ohmygawd, those costumes were amaaaazing!
(Film Qlub member, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
Really enjoyed this, even for the costumes and hairstyles alone! The actors' eyes were amazing too, conveying brilliantly so many exaggerated emotions. Hard to believe the teenager Salome was actually 44 years old!
(Film Qlub member, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
I love your introductions as much as I love the films. Silent films are so wonderfully expressive and I adored the Aubrey Beardsley inspired set and costumes. I was [also] stunned to find that the actress who played Salome was 44! she moved like a child in many ways but her vengeance was all woman scorned. Thoroughly enjoyable.
(member of Running Amach, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
(member of Running Amach, NAZIMOVA: Salome, December 2014)
Enjoyed the film and the discussion afterwards. Will definitely look up more of [Gus Van Sant's] early work.
(member of Running Amach, GUS VAN SANT: Mala Noche, November 2014)
Another great movie !
(Film Qlub day member GUS VAN SANT: Mala Noche, November 2014)
Great Movie choice. Loved the mixture of risk and playfulness, power plays and grimy grainy cinematography. The story had a distinct reflective and autobiographical feel to it and the continuity blibs gave us all something to smile about. Low budget high quality movie on the themes of youth, longing and racial stereotypes. One is left wondering "who was taking advantage of who" ?
(Film Qlub day member, GUS VAN SANT: Mala Noche, November 2014)
Way ahead of its time.
(Film Qlub member, GUS VAN SANT: Mala Noche, November 2014)
What a fantastic start to the new season [of the Film Qlub]. I absolutely loved the energy of the film.
(member of Running Amach, BALLETBo-COLL: Costa Brava, October 2014)
Just ordered the DVD [on the same day, after seeing the film at the club] - need I say more?........but I will!   This movie was intelligent, engaging and hilarious in spots. A lesbian film that leaves the viewer with a smile at the end rather than a heavy heart - what's seldom is wonderful. Keep up the good work on our behalf [at the Film Qlub] .  .  .  but I fear film 1 of season 5 may be a hard act to follow.
(Film Qlub member, BALLETBo-COLL: Costa Brava, October 2014)
The best lesbian film I have ever seen.
(Film Qlub member, BALLETBo-COLL: Costa Brava, October 2014)
Thanks .  .  .  for bringing another classic to us. Lovely gentle fun story about two people in love  .  .  .  Captivating.   [The] film qlub is priceless.
(member of Running Amach, BALLETBo-COLL: Costa Brava, October 2014)
This movie is a raw gem. Thank you  .  .  .  for this discovery! It is so refreshing to see a movie that is devoid of all the crust and conventions carried by Hollywood . .  .  [It] felt much stronger than a LGBT-themed movie to me: it was really about humanity in all its imperfect glory. Very visual too: I felt like Marta [BalletbO-Coll] was painting the scenes with her camera -and I'm not only referring to . . . significant . . .  elements in bright red colour on top of the beautiful blue hues of the Costa Brava. And well, she is hilarious.
(Day member, BALLETBo-COLL: Costa Brava, October 2014)
Loved it!
FILM QLUB SEASON FOUR: AFTER STONEWALL -- THE 1970S
Thanks .  .  .  for a great season of films. Really enjoyed yesterday's film and look forward to the next season.
  (Film Qlub Day, You Are Not Alone, July 2014)
A lovely film
(Film Qlub Day member, You Are Not Alone, July 2014)
I liked the way adolescent love was portrayed, as a need for closeness.
(Film Qlub Day member, You Are Not Alone, July 2014)
I cried. Twice.
(member of Running Amach, You Are Not Alone, July 2014)
We loved it.
(Film Qlub Day members, You Are Not Alone, July 2014)
Great film, could not imagine a nicer way to spend Saturday afternoon
(member of Running Amach, Twice a Woman, June 2014)
Loved it.
(Film Qlub member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)
I really enjoyed the whole thing. [It was my first time at the Film Qlub, and] I will be back.
(Day member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)
I thought that the big age difference was borderline acceptable.
(Day member, Twice a Woman, June 2014)
That opening scene was... unbelievable.
(member of Running Amach, Twice a Woman, June 2014)
Fantastic movie! really enjoyed it, gruesome goughing out of eyeballs notwithstanding! :) Really compelling, and clever inversion of the Oedipal Myth in a trippy queer Toykyo setting. Fair play to [the Film Qlub] for unearthing this gem.  Loved it. Thanks!
(member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)
I am shocked. Matsumoto [the director of Funeral Parade] should have sued Kubrick. There are at least three scenes in Clockwork Orange that are lifted straight from this film!  (Day member, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)
Great movie, one of my favourites this season.
(member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)
Many thanks .  .  .  for showing this amazing film, a real delight. Loved the stunning cinematography, deft social commentary and the unexpected wit!
 (member of Running Amach, Funeral Parade of Roses, May 2014)
I really enjoyed this film. It transported me back to my coming out days, thank God the scene is just so different now.
(member of Running Amach, Nighthawks, April 2014)
One of my favourites this season. [I know some people didnt like the music in the film, but] I thought the soundtrack suited it!  Kind of mesmerising.                                                                      (member of Running Amach, Nighthawks, April 2014)
Qlubber 1: A pretty accurate document of the gay male cruising scene...
Qlubber 2: ... and of the straight cruising scene!
(Film Qlub day members, Nighthawks, April 2014)
Found it fascinating. Well done on screening this film.
(member of Running Amach, Nighthawks, April 2014)
I dont know of any other circumstances where we would come across the films you research and have for us every month. Always thought-provoking and enriching.
(member of Running Amach, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)
I was surprised that I enjoyed this film. As someone who likes her entertainmet 'on tap' the drip drip delivery of the opening scene created opportunities for the imagination, not usually experienced while viewing a film.
(Film Qlub day member, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)
That was an endurance test!
(member of Running Amach, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)
Excellent .  .  .  hypnotic and unusual , mysterious and lifelike, I need a bag of sugar! [like the protagonist of the film]  :)
(Film Qlub member, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)
The meet up was good but the film was very depressing and very hard going especially the first section although I know it shows clearly a woman depressed but I'm not sure if I could say I enjoyed watching it !
(member of Running Amach, Je, Tu, Il, Elle, March 2014)
A fantastic film!
(member of Running Amach, Johan, February 2014)
I like that mixture of documentary and fiction.
(Film Qlub day member, Johan, February 2014)
A fun film.
(Film Qlub day member, Johan, February 2014)
I like a film with a story, and there was no story here!  (Film Qlub day member, Johan, Feb 2014)
What a WONDERFUL film!                                                               (Film Qlub day member, Les Biches, Jan 2014)
Loved it! Must try and find myself a young one like that, so I can click my fingers [like the woman in the film], say a" fetch me a beer" and she will obey...     lol      :-)
(member of Running Amach, Les Biches, Jan 2014)
A lovely afternoon, congrats on the full house, looking forward to many more of them! This film was a perfect mix of an intriguing power play between the characters, glamorous ennui and foreboding cellos   ;0               (film qlub member, Les Biches, February 2014)
It has everything in it.              (day member, Les Biches, February 2014)
A feast [for] discussion .  .  . With an undercurrent that we are all different, not right or wrong. A great film about our community.
                                                     (member of Running Amach, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)
CUTE!   (about four audience members all at once, as soon as the discussion opened to the floor after the screening, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)
Interesting to see that the idea of 'masculinity' as a construct was around in the early seventies.   (audience member, A Very Natural Thing, Dec 2013)
You wouldnt get that kind of real heart-felt honesty in a film nowadays, when people parade their private lives on the net (audience member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)
A great opening to Season Four.    (Film Qlub member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)
Some of the views in the film were shocking, and very worrying.  (audience member, Word is Out!, Nov 2013)
SPECIAL FILM QLUB SCREENING AT GAZE FILM FESTIVAL
An amazing film.            (audience member, Different from the Others, August 2013, special screening of the Film Qlub in the Light House Cinema  at the GAZE Film  Festival)
Incredible.                       (audience member, Different from the Others, August 2013, special screening of the Film Qlub in the Light House Cinema  at the GAZE Film  Festival)
Almost one hundred years after the movie’s opening, we have come a long way in mainstream society in terms of equal rights and general understanding. But too many people around the globe are still fighting for the same issues as they did in the 1910’s. This screening was a powerful reminder that people already fought for their rights, when there was much more than their reputations at stake.
            Even in western society, where the battle for marriage equality often seems to be the only battle left, many groups, such as teachers, athletes and transgender people are still struggling to be accepted in their community or society. Recent political actions in Russia, and the oppression and criminalization of homosexuality in still too many countries, shows us that in the end, only small things have changed, and this film, felt not only inspiring but also empowering.
(Jan Schneider, in a review of the Film Qlub screening of Different from the Others at GAZE, published in Eile Magazine, August 2013)
Really great film, beautifully directed and dreamily ethereal, lots to unpack and enjoyed chats afterwards too! (member of Running Amach, Reflections in a Golden Eye, may 2013)
Brilliant movie, one I'd watch again... loads to think about :)     (Film Qlub member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
Thanks for a lovely afternoon, enjoyed the movie and the analysis after in the Flounge :-)    (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
Super film.  (Film Qlub Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
Great film and thought-provoking discussion.       (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
I really enjoyed the film and talk after. The Flounge and the meal were an added bonus. Looking forward to next month's film already! Cheers      (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
Great movie.  (Day Member, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
Very enjoyable afternoon.   (member of Running Amach, Young Man with a Horn, april 2013)
I cant believe they were allowed to make this movie as far back as 1964!!     (Day Member, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)
Lovely though heartbreaking story. Particularly loved the younger actor. Well done again guys for another great movie... (member of Running Amach, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)
Interesting poignant film and any of us who went to same sex boarding schools (albeit many years later) will remember the younger – older student crush. Beautiful and menacing performances       (member of Running Amach, Les Amitiés Particulières, march 2013)
Cool movie as always and interesting 'short' beforehand too!! :)       (member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013)
A great film.   (Day Member, Caged!, february 2013)
Really strong gutsy film, enjoyed the short and discussion afterwards too!
(member of Running Amach, Caged!, february 2013)
Thanks for finding this film. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)
I wouldnt say it is a great film, but it is very interesting because of the historical context. (Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)
The director was a disgrace [in terms of the racist films he made in the 30s]. I am very surprised that he made this film. But that was a totally homophobic ending.         (Day Member, at the post-screening discussion, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)
I didnt find it homophobic at all. I thought it was a very pro-gay movie.
                                                                                      (Day Member, at the discussion, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)
How do you find these films?!  (a bewildered Day Member, Bewildered Youth, january 2013)
Wow!     (a member of the audience, at the sight of Katharine Hepburn with a moustache in the middle of the film, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
It was very well filmed, with some great camerawork at times (Day Member, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
Amazing to think this film was made in 1935 (member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
Great film and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards
(member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
Very entertaining if far fetched Sylvia Scarlett / Katharine Hepburn 1936 film. I loved the sea rescue scene. This movie is hers for sure, striking the attention of all whether she plays boy or girl. The short "Homosex and the City" was hilarious. Great end to Film Qlub for 2012. Onward to 2013.
(member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
Lovely, Katharine Hepburn makes a beautiful man.
(member of Running Amach, Sylvia Scarlett, december 2012)
I had never heard about this film before.
(Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)
Some films of the period are ambiguous, they dont make it clear if they have a gay theme of not, but this is obviously a gay film.
(Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)
Apart from the gay story, I liked the portrait of working class people in the film, like the grandmother, resilient and proud, getting on with it and not showing any signs of weakness in front of others. I have known many people like her, she felt real.
(Day member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)
A very enjoyable film
(film qlub member, The Leather Boys, november 2012)
Really enjoyed the film club as usual. Really beautiful, crafty and interesting film with a great discussion afterwards as always
(film qlub member, Cat People, october 2012)
I saw the film many years ago and I didn't pick up on the lesbian content, but it's different to watch it in a gay context
(Day Member, Cat People, october 2012)
I really enjoyed it. The film was ' super-lesbian  ' --- said in my best [Catalan] accent! The New Theatre is a really cute venue!
(member of Running Amach, Cat People, october 2012)
I really enjoyed my first Film Qlub event and I'll definitely be back :-)
FILM QLUB SEASON TWO: AROUND THE WORLD IN THE 80s
One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012)
Extraordinary. (Day member, Pixote, July 2012)
An amazing film.  (Day member, Pixote, July 2012)
Really good. Tough to watch though. (Film Qlub member, Pixote, July 2012)
It was a fun movie and very different from the last two movies I've seen at the Film Qlub. I'm curious to see more anime now. It was a great discussion afterwards, as always, and it was brilliant that Katherine Farmar was there to explain the genre to us as it was new territory for almost everyone. I can't wait for Season 3 now! (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)
Wonderful afternoon.   (Film Qlub member, Project A-Ko, june 2012)
It wasn't my kind of film, but I'm really glad I went and heard people's opinions on it. Lovely meet up and great conversation afterwards.  (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)
A film to stop thinking and just let yourself go. Really refreshing and super fun. (member of Running Amach, Project A-Ko, june 2012)
A great film. My favourite film of the Season so far. (Film Qlub member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)
The film was fun! (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)
It reminded me of Hitchcock, and of David Lynch. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)
Where did you get this film? It is not available anywhere. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)
It was a very entertaining movie! Great choice. (Day member, The Fourth Man, may 2012)
The Film Qlub is a great concept and everyone was so welcoming. And tea and biscuits beforehand - sure you can't go wrong!! I loved the discussion about the film afterwards - it's brilliant to hear other people's views on the characters and the storyline and it made me think a bit differently about the movie I saw. I'll definitely be back to the Film Qlub!  (member of Running Amach, april 2012)
I really enjoyed the movie. My favourite this season I think. Although I suspect this might change after June's movie. (Film Qlub member, Another Way, april 2012) [Editor's note: and it did!]
Very thought provoking film, and I enjoyed the discussion afterwards. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012)
I thought the film was a brilliant glimpse at lesbian history, despite the tragic ending - and our discussions before and after were really interesting. (member of Running Amach, Another Way, april 2012)
A very interesting film. It was a credit to the main actress that her character did not become creepy. I know this film will stay with me for a long time, as there is much in it to be thought over. (Day member, Doña Herlinda, march 2012)
I loved the film. (Day member, Doña Herlinda and her Son, march 2012)
I don't know how accurate the portrayal of Gertrude Stein was in this movie, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. (Film Qlub member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)
Interesting film, and great chat after! (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)
Apart from very enjoyable film love the 'New Theatre ', coffees beforehand a nice touch, look forward to next screening from Film Qlub. Enjoyed chat after too :)  (member of Running Amach, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)
Lovely film, a much calmer Gertrude Stein than I expected. And I enjoyed the chat afterward. (member of Running Amach, february 2012)
Excellent. A real pleasure to watch and chat and discuss after. (Day member, Waiting for the Moon, february 2012)
Superb film. One of the best films I've ever seen. (Film Qlub member, Colonel Redl, january 2012)
Absolutely fascinating film for anyone with an interest in politics. (Day member, Colonel Redl, january 2012)
It is great to have an opportunity to watch this film on the screen. (Day member, Colonel Redl, january 2012)
