The information provided here indicates that Alfred was in C Sqn DLOY (28/8/15 was the date that C Sqn deployed to France) but without his service record, it is uncertain as to which unit Alfred transferred in 1917. Nine officers and 125 other ranks from C and D Squadrons (and RHQ) DLOY transferred into 12(DLOY) Battalion the Manchester Regiment. Other units which absorbed DLOY members included Lancashire Fusilier, Border Regiment, South Lancashire Regiment, Sherwood Foresters, East Lancashire Regiment, The Manchester Regiment (50th, 51st and 52nd Brigades - cf "Chain Mail" John Brereton.)
