8 - Conditionals

Conditionals

'If' Sentences

In Unit 6 we looked at the Modal Auxiliaries and we saw how they added meaning to the main verb.

In this Unit, we will explore a way of adding meaning to a sentence. With 'if' sentences (‘Conditionals’), we can show whether we think an action is ‘probable and likely’, ‘unlikely’ or ‘impossible’.

Follow the steps below to complete this unit:

1.  Read an overview of ‘Evaluation and Assessment’. Use one of the online dictionaries to look up any words you do not know.

2.  Read the Language Focus on Conditionals, which is split into 2 parts:

     a. 'If'Sentences - Use

     b. 'If' Sentences - Form

(The whole Language Focus can be downloaded from here as a PDF file: 'If' SentencesComplete.pdf)

Then return to this page.
