6 - Modal Verbs

The Modal Auxiliaries

In previous Units we looked at verb tenses, and we saw how some tenses – the progressive and perfect tenses – add more information than just ‘when’. These tenses show not only when an action happens, but also how we look at that action.

In this Unit, we will explore another way of adding meaning to the verb. The Modal Auxiliaries add ‘attitude’ to the main verb.
