DESIGN RULES

1. All design entries are open to the Arkansas Federation of Garden Club members.

2. Pre-registration is required in all design classes.

3. Mail, call or email entries to the Design Entry Chairman. When mailing, please give 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices on the registration form found in this schedule. The Design Entry Chairman is:

4. Designs may be entered on Thursday, June 10, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Friday, June 11, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

5. Entry cards will be prepared by the Design Entry Chairman and given to the exhibitor as they enter the show floor.

6. All entries MUST pass the Classification Chairman and be initialed before the exhibitor is free to leave the showroom.

7. Judging will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010.

8. An exhibitor may enter as many classes as desired but only one exhibit per class.

9. All designs MUST include some plant material.

10. Dried plant material may be treated, dyed, glycerinated or painted.

11. Treatment of fresh material in any way is prohibited.

12. Exhibitors accepting assignments in the design division, if unable to exhibit, MUST provide a substitute.

13. Plant material need not have been grown by the exhibitor.

14. Since the show must be maintained for an additional day after judging, a committee of assigned persons will check exhibits on Saturday, June 12th to determine if replacement of wilted materials is needed. Extra plant material should be provided by the exhibitor. Replacement of wilted materials will be at the discretion of the committee, and substitutes in plant material may be made if material is not provided.

15. Decorative wood is allowed in all classes.

16. No artificial flowers, foliage, fruit or vegetables are permitted.

17. All special staging will be furnished by the Flower Show Committee unless otherwise stated in the schedule.

18. All designs must be the work of one exhibitor and that exhibitor’s name must appear on the entry card.

19. Landscapes or scenes are not permitted.

20. The following are permitted unless prohibited in the Design Division rules or by law:

a. Accessories or featured objects.

b. Fresh plant material may be clipped, stripped, bent or otherwise manipulated.

c. Contrived flowers or other forms made from real plant materials, fresh and/or dried.

d. Cut fruits or vegetables must be sealed to discourage insects, odors, and discoloration. Any non-perishable food product is also allowed, but must be sealed if the possibility exists for attracting insects or producing an undesirable odor.

e. Objects which add interest when tastefully used, e.g. feathers, antlers, coral, horns, starfish, sponges, sea fans, shells, nests, manufactured or crafted simulations of birds, animals, etc. for toys or as decorative items are permitted.

f. Special lighting.

g. All staging properties, such as panels, frames, pedestals, columns, boxes, cubes, etc. may be incorporated into designs.

h. Living plants with roots attached, e.g., moss, Bromeliaceae.

i. Plants on state conservation/native plant list, grown by exhibitor or obtained in legal manner and so identified. State policy prevails.
