The No.1 igniter was an ignition cartridge for the flamethrower.

"Cartridge Igniter No.1 Mark I" was used to ignite the fuel supply of flame throwers.

The case was unique to the round and was a rimmed straight sided case 1.6 inches long. The case is shown as having a slightly raised portion around the cap chamber. The headstamp included the code "No.1" and the mark numeral. The primer usually has the "ICI" logo impressed. Early examples had the case mouth sealed with white paint but this was later changed to olive green paint.

The case contains a copper detonator holding about 13.4 grains of modified SR 580 plus 3.8 grains of priming mixture.
