Production of .303 inch ammunition started in India around 1895, as it was on 22^nd April of that year that approval was given for the use of the characteristic government ownership mark of an “I” surmounted by a Broad Arrow.

Indian Government ownership mark . On Kirkee manufactured ammunition it is found between the "K" and the "F".
