BERKSHIRE TYPE

The Boston & Albany owned 55 Berkshires, all built by the Lima Locomotive Works. Numbers 1400-1424 were built in 1926, 1425-1444 were built in 1926-1927, and 1445-1454 were built in 1930. All had 28x30 inch cylinders, 63 inch drivers and operated off a boiler pressure of 245 Lbs. With boosters operating they produced 81,400 lbs. of tractive force, substantially more than the 74,470 lbs. produced by the H-10a class 2-8-2, their immediate predecessor.
