2-8-0 CONSOLIDATION TYPE

The locomotives are listed in order of the number assigned at or after the 1912 renumbering.

G-30 Class - This group consisted of 36 of the earliest Boston & Albany 2-8-0 locomotives. All were built by Baldwin during 1887-1891 with 20x26 inch cylinders and 50 inch drivers operating with 160 lbs. of boiler pressure. The last was scrapped in 1923.

G-32a - This group consisted of 24 engines similar to the G-30 Class but all were built by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1893-1895. Some surrvived until 1926.

948 was built in 1893

This photo shows 948 at the same ash pit as in the photo above but here it is still numbered

New York Central Lines 2512. It had previously been 91 and 181 before that.

953 was built in 1894

953 was photographed at West Springfield apparently on the scrap line in the mid 1920's

G-33 Class - This group consisted of 12 locomotives built by Schenectady in 1901 with compound cylinders. They were rebuilt with 20x32 inch cylinders operating off 195 lbs. of boiler pressure on 57 inch drivers. In 1917 and 1918 they were rebuilt as U-33 0-8-0's.

966 probably near the time it became an 0-8-0.

G-34a Class - This group consisted of 14 locomotives built by Schenectady in 1903 and retired 1925-1928. They had 21x30 inch cylinders, 63 inch drivers and operated off 200 lbs. of boiler pressure.

G-5, G-6 and G-16 - This group consisted of 64 locomotives built by Schenectady with 23x32 inch cylinders, 63 inch drivers, operating with 200 lbs. of boiler pressure. The first ten (990-999) were built in 1905 and in 1915 were rebuilt as H-5g 2-8-2's. The others (1000-1049) were built in 1907-1908 except the last four, numbers 1050-1053, which were built in 1912.
