Abstract:

This Symposium featured a presentation on the work of a faculty member and small groups of graduate students in counselor education who created and have been maintaining a website on action research in school counseling. The initiative was launched in the fall of 2014 by school counseling graduate students working with Dr. Lonnie Rowell at the University of San Diego. The purpose of the Initiative is to create and maintain a web space in which graduate students in school counseling, counselor educators, and practicing school counselors throughout North America can explore the varied applications of action research and participatory research to strengthening the practice of counseling in schools. Each year, a leadership team is recruited among graduate students in the School Counseling concentration at the University of San Diego and oriented towards developing the initiative and adding projects to the website’s database at http://www.schoolcounselor-advocate.com/. This team then manages the website and develops strategies and plans for developing the initiative.
