Pat Kennedy writes: Forty Plus Cycling Club ‘C’ Group members on their way to pay their respects at Mike Headland’s funeral on 26 June 2018, cycling from Morrisons, St Albans to the West Herts Crematorium, Garston. Led by Pat Kennedy, they avoided main roads to join with several other Forty Plus CC members for coffee and a sandwich at the Black Boy pub on the Old Watford Road. From the pub an over-20-strong group cycled the short distance to the crematorium, to be met by other Forty Plus members to form a large congregation of Michael’s friends from his world of cycling, walking, badminton, swimming, shooting and crib players. A Humanist minister, Debbie Brooke, conducted the service and read heart-warming tributes to Michael from several of his friends, including reading a special tribute from the Forty Plus, St Albans secretary, Roger Hodgson. After the service a reception/wake was held at the Bricket Wood Social Club, after which a ride back to Morrisons was led by Michael’s old friend, Ian Ollier.
