November & December EDITION

SHMS has been busy during the month of November! Our biggest event was Homecoming 2020! The entire Homecoming Court looked like royalty. Eighth Grader, Brennan Lane won the 2020-2021 Homecoming Queen title with basketball player, Noah Rhodes by her side. The boys basketball team played the Southland Rebels and picked up a Homecoming win, as well!

The Middle School had a month filled with learning, both virtual and in class! Students in Mrs. McLain's Keyboarding 2 classes learned how to make pixel art in Google Sheets by creating custom formatting. Mr. Byers taught his 7th grade Science students all about cells and looking through a microscope. The 7th grade English students in Mrs. Huckelbery's class put Spongebob on trial to work on persuasive essays. Everyone's hard work was rewarded with a full week off for Thanksgiving Break at the end of November!

We have many upcoming events here at SHMS Middle School including our athletics. Sporting events can be found on the Sports Page of our SHMS website. You can also find big events for the entire district on the main page of the school website: www.shslions.org.

Don't forget that 2nd quarter ends December 18th, 2020. This is also the end of our 1st Semester. Christmas Break is from December 19th-January 3rd. We return back to school January 4th, 2021! The district has approved three AMIX dates. Students will NOT come to school on these dates, but will be responsible for completing their virtual assignments on December 9th, January 13th, and March 17th. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered like it was on busses during the summer, as well as two pick up areas. Delivery via bus routes will begin around 10am. Meals will also be available for pick up at the cafeterias at both campuses beginning at 11AM.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe we are almost at the end of the first semester already! Our students, teachers, and staff have all been working very hard and we only have three more weeks until Christmas Break. Let's finish strong!

As always, I encourage you to check on your students' Powerschool account to keep up to date on your students' grades, attendance, and lunch information. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Help Stop the Spread

Help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like COVID-19, by avoiding close contact with people who are sick; covering cough and sneeze; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; and washing your hands with soap and water. If you are sick, you can prevent spreading sickness by staying home and taking care of yourself.

How to Wear a Cloth Face Covering

Cloth face coverings should—

  • fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

  • be secured with ties or ear loops

  • allow for breathing without restriction

  • be able to be laundered and machine dried
