November Edition

HOMECOMING

SHMS celebrated Homecoming this month! The theme was "Our Home, Our Game" and the boys basketball teams proved that to be true with two wins over Holcomb! Eighth grader, Melanie Gonzalez, was crowned queen by her escort, Logan Beard, during the ceremony joined by maids from each grade. The 8th grade maids were Emily Alvarado escorted by Victor Luna and Halle Jamerson escorted by Gerardo Castillo. The 7th grade maids were Lily Chandler escorted Glacian Johnson and Lacey Lane escorted by Cade Sawyer. The 6th grade maids were Natalie Branum escorted by Ben Branum and Praizley Rhodes escorted by Cooper Patterson. The 5th grade maids were Lexi Sierra escorted by Cash Bradford and Claire Vincent escorted by Lawson Gurley. The flower girl and crown bearer, Vivienne Garza and Elian Ramos, were chosen by the queen. The Masters of Ceremony were Jacob Chapman and Doralyce Salas and they did a wonderful job hosting the evening. The Yearbook Staff planned the event from the colors, to the balloon arch, and everything in between! It was a great day to be a LION!

Food Drive

The SHMS food drive was a huge success! Together, we were able to collect a total of 4,832 food items that will be donated to local churches and to our backpack food program. We would like to thank our students, parents, and community members for your amazing support. Special shout out to our middle school counselor, Mrs. Byers, for organizing such a great event!

  • Why can’t basketball players go on vacation?

  • They aren’t allowed to travel.

Watch for symptoms

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19.

Help Stop the Spread

Help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like COVID-19, by avoiding close contact with people who are sick; covering cough and sneeze; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; and washing your hands with soap and water. If you are sick, you can prevent spreading sickness by staying home and taking care of yourself.

How to Wear a Cloth Face Covering

Cloth face coverings should—

  • fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

  • be secured with ties or ear loops

  • allow for breathing without restriction

  • be able to be laundered and machine dried
