Early Reading Intervention

EARLY INTERVENTION Reading Program

Scarsdale reading specialists provide supplemental reading instruction, in conjunction with the classroom balanced literacy curriculum, to students who need additional support in reading. Daily small group instruction is provided to striving primary grade students (with a focus on first graders) working towards grade level expectations. Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is an instructional tool that reading specialists use to lift the level of literacy achievement. Explicit instruction is provided in phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and fluency. Ongoing assessments are used to monitor student progress and instructional needs. Results are analyzed to determine the length of time a student will participate in the early intervention reading program. Classroom teachers and reading specialists work collaboratively to ensure congruent instruction and optimize student progress.
