2022 Foxcroft School Trail MapPING

Trail mapping Project

The trail mapping project at Foxcroft was done in the Engineering during the years of 2021 and 2022. The project mapped and blazed both Pink House and Mountville Trail. There are posts on both of those trails with their respective signs, blazes, and markers helping guide the way of hikers in the woods!

Design Phase Review

In this design review I prioritized what should be done first - mapping and blazing the trail. This design review was extremely helpful because it narrowed down the scope of my project.

Design Phase 2: Specification Development

Design Review 2
Formal Design Review 3

Design Phase Review

In these review I got into the specifics on how to make signs, posts, and blazes. For example, my initial thought was the spray paint the posts but then Ms. Anderson told us that the spray paint would not last, so we moved to painting the posts. Furthermore, we confirmed design choices to be more geometric. These design review confirmed what the plan was further down the road. After the "okay" we then started mapping and blazing Mountville trail!

Design Phase 3: CONCEPTUAL Design

EPICS Initial Design Review Trailblazing

Design Phase Review:

This is a significant design phase because we added a new element to the project.... markers! In this design review we got feedback on the final design of the markers by adding in our prototypes and showing prior art.

Design phase 4: Detailed design

EPICS Formal Design Review Trailblazing

Design PHase Review pt. 1

In this design review we discussed the pros and cons of each marker and we narrowed it down to the diamond shape. This is because it saved the most material and is easy to fit 3 numbers.

These are the new markers and the design of the mini maps to put at the confusing loop of the trail in Mountville Trail.

Design Phase review pt. 2

In this period of time we got a lot done! We measure the distance of Mountville and placed markers. We also fixed confusing areas and added 'mini-maps' to the confusing loop. Additionally, we added markers, blazes, and signs to Pink House trail... we also painted posts for this!
