Project Identification & Specifications Development
Design Phase 1 - Project Identification
Project Charter
A project charter is a document that is used by the EPICS team as a guide for the project and to set things in motion. This document articulates why this project would be worth the time, effort and resources to complete (functional requirements). It also provides a visual guide to the aesthetic choices agreed upon by the user and designer (formal considerations). This document is reviewed and refined as needed throughout the design cycle.

Prototype
This prototype was purposely made smaller and out of tape and small popsicle sticks. It is not the best representation because of its size.

Design Review Notes 2/27/23
Reviewers: Mr. Northrup, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Borror, Ms. Preston, Seniora Sanchez
Materials
Self adhesive tread (like skateboard)
Moveable pieces should latch to stay put when transporting
Width of ramp should fit wheelchair/carts / Hand truck
Build out a frame to support the plank
Storage / Setup Process
Cannot store wood in stairway
Interlocking parts instead of hinged to reduce weight
Safety
Move handles inside or fold down to prevent tripping hazard
Blocks connecting to stairs add stability
Less steep angle adds distance, adds weight, adds difficulty to transport
Review ADA compliance for handicap (angle + distance)
Users / Testing Procedures
Rails not helpful for crutches
Measure exact angle + distance of surrounding sidewalk to maneuver around
Progress, Issues, Goals (PIGS)
Progress:
Rocky
Completed prototype
First Design proposal completed
Avery
The main overall design of my prototype is complete. Review presentation is complete.
Stephanie
My main design prototype completed
First Design presentation proposal completed
Issues:
Rocky
Not having a set storage plan due to breaking the fire code.
Weight and moveability are considered into play.
Locations of the handles are an issue with the even distribution of weight.
Avery
The handles are one of the biggest current issues. This is due to the handles sticking causing a safety hazard and a tripping hazard while not exactly falling safety rules.
Another current problem is not having a fixed storage plan for the ramp protocol that I designed. I was hoping it could be stored in student life, but it could not be there due not enough room, then the next proposed area was under or near the back stairs but that could be a fire hazard.
Also the distribution of weight of the wood that could be used. According to one of the maintence staff, if we were to use wood and carpeting for the prototype I designed then it would get extremely heavy to use and not benefit the person would actually use the ramp overall.
Stephanie
Change material for wood area's on plank for weather durability.
Build a frame under plank to ensure safety and security for users.
Weight must accommodate maintenance wagons and more.
Goals:
Rocky
Come up with a single ramp design that is able to support a card/pop-up shop and assist the maintenance staff and faculty members.
Have another design proposal for our shareholders.
Start to work on a good functioning ramp.
Avery
I hope to come up with a solution with the safety issues of my handles--- perhaps also having the handles as well be foldable. I also hope to address the storage issue
I also hope to start working and building the ramp as soon as possible with any of the possible design scenarios.
Stephanie
I want to come up with a frame idea to add under my plank to ensure security for weight and structure.
I want to add a foldable option to my prototype for portability.
I hope project construction can start up soon.
