"School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to natural development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy and learning.” -(NASN,2010)

Our nursing team at Northmont is prepared and qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures. School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students.

Many students come to school with various health needs that may interfere with their ability to learn and reach their full potential. Infections, injuries, asthma, diabetes, allergies, and emotional difficulties related to these health conditions may lead to absences from school and, in some cases, academic failure if left unattended or not addressed properly. The nursing team is a committed and proactive partner in ensuring that students have a safe environment, are healthy, and are prepared to learn.

The School Nurse is the first person you may wish to speak to regarding any health care concerns or health related issues that could affect your child in the school setting.
