Procedure for blending words
Every unit in kindergarten works on word blending.
Below is a routine to help your child throughout the year work on blending words.
Blend and read!
1. Say the word and have your child listen for the sounds.
2. Have your child identify the first sound in the word.
3. Have your child identify the first letter for that sound and write it.
4. Continue with the remaining sounds.
5. Blend the sound of each letter together to read the word.
Example: Listen to the three sounds in dot. /d/ /o/ /t/. What is the first sound in dot? What is the first letter for that sound? Write d on your paper. Now write d on your paper. Continue the word with the remaining sounds.
