Newsies Make Up

MAKEUP: (link to doc)

For makeup, each actor will need a makeup kit to be applied at home and then touched up at school (many cast members like to put it on at school, which is fine too).  Please utilize what you have at home or purchase inexpensive brands (ELF is available at Target or something similar) if you do have to purchase anything.

Basic Stage Makeup Application Instructions

1. Wash your face.

2. Apply Foundation: Choose a foundation that gives good coverage and is one

shade darker than your natural skin tone. This may look dark, but

under stage lights you will look normal to the audience. Start the foundation

at the forehead and blend up to the hairline. Then cover the rest of the face,

including ears, eyelids, under the chin and on the neck with a sponge or your

fingertips. Be sure to apply on the neck to the point where your costume will

come. This includes the back of your neck that will show (if you have your

hair up). Tip: work one area of the face at a time.

3. Blush: Choose a natural rosy blush. Start high on the cheekbone, push up into

the hairline, then bring forward. Boys should also use blush, but it should be

a little lighter than girls. Tip: Do not bring blush all the way to the front of the

face. Keep it high on the cheek.

4. Eyes: Use a neutral/flesh tone matte eye shadow (NO SHIMMER) on your lids and brow bone area. Line the upper and lower lids with black or brown liner. Girls should curl lashes and apply one coat of mascara to upper lashes.

5. Eyebrows: This is as important as any make-up step and is often missed. Use

a brown eyebrow pencil to darken the eyebrows. Tip: Apply backwards on

eyebrow hair, then follow the natural brow line, don’t come down too far.

6. Lips: Line the lips with a natural color lip liner. Choose a natural lip color that

would look like a person’s natural lip color. Peaches, light pinks, mauves and

nudes work well. Apply lipstick.

7. Powder: To finalize your look and keep everything in place, finish with a

translucent powder (preferably loose powder). Tip: Apply using a large brush

and a light touch.
